Spend my 360 $$$ for me.

Post by Genesis Knight »

I recently was given a $400 (!!!) Wal Mart gift card, and I'm eyeing the Pro for $299 and the Elite for $399. Which would you go for? And if the Pro, what would you spend the remaining $100 on?

The Elite is going to get a price drop to $299. I'd wait for that.

Pro, if still in stock is gonna be $249 and Elite is gonna be $299 as mentioned. Wait a few days and get whichever suits you. Waiting a few days will get you about 2 awesome games extra.

Great time to buy an Xbox, because the 3 year warranty covers it until the next console comes along which will be backward compatible probably . You win.

If you like shooters, id say left 4 dead, call of duty 4 or world at war, the orange box, halo 3.

I also like Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, GoW... and if you've ever played Tribes on the pc then I'd wait for Section 8 in the next week and Borderlands.

Wow, great news about Warranty + Price drop. I've been reading up on how to ID a Jasper chipset.

Thanks for the recs - how about some less popular ones like Ninja Gaiden II, Too Human and Prince of Persia?

EDIT: Now I realize the dilemma: 360 on price cut or PS3 slim? Since I'm playing on a standard def TV and have no need for wireless streaming (already have a XBMC-tricked Xbox 1) or Blu-Ray, it comes down to games and online support. Free for PS3, pay for XBX. Then again, I like 360 exclusives more, at least to date.

If this is your criteria, then honestly in my opinion, the 360 is the clear choice. With the new price drops, the ONLY difference (besides color) between Pro and Elite is the HDD size. IMO you really do not need a 120gb HDD on a console. Go for the Pro and consider the other $50 toward XBL Gold if it's that important to you.

BUT keep in mind, you can do most everything on XBL Silver except play with other people. You're not paying for access to Live. You can still DL demos, XBLA games and videos. If you go with Silver for now, you can wait until after Xmas and get 13-month Gold deals for $30 or $40. They happen every year from Jan-April from various retailers or sites like Amazon. If you frequent any forums you can't miss them because word always spreads quickly.

As far as games. Bang for you buck = Orange Box, Fallout 3, Burnout Paradise and Raiden Fighters Aces. On XBLA look into Pac-Man CE, Shadow Complex, Bionic Commando Rearmed and old school shooters like Doom or Duke Nukem. Check out the Indie Games, too. Most are $1-$3.
