changing a battery for a sega genesis/mega drive cart?

Post by grittykitty »

my copy of beyond oasis doesn't keep game saves after power off. anyone changed a battery on a genesis cart before? or know how? i imagine it would be similar to the "how to change a snes battery" guide racketboy posted last fall, but i wanted to make sure

The best way to know would be opening the cart and taking a look

*Edit*

Just opened Phantasy Star 2, the same CR2032, so the I guess same applies

almost all the games use removeable CR2302 batteries... but there are a few here and there that soldered the batteries in. These were usually cheaply manufactured games... and wouldn't be a big game like 'Beyond Oasis'.

What did the "big games" use instead?

It would be nice if you could compile a list of the games that use batteries.

'big games'... I mean as in games published by succesful companies... i.e. Sega, Capcom, Sony... etc. and they used removeable CR2302 batteries.

Games that used cheap soldered in batteries are games like Hong Kong bootlegs, small publishing companies, and other cheap installations. I can't think of any specific titles, but I'm referring to games of quality like that crappy Moses game (which doesn't have a save battery, but I'm only comparing as quality of publishing).

As for making a compilation. Ummm, I'm not that exclusively informed in games to list them all specifically. There are possibilities of games here and there use cheap save battery manufacturing and I don't have the time and money to hunt these titles down. Including the corrolation of any possibility of certain manufacturing runs improving the battery used. Too many variables for a small collector like myself to handle.

I own 1000 titles across 16 consoles, sounds like a lot, but nothing near the masse amount of games that actually cover all 16 consoles.
