Who can fix a VCR? Or at least diagnois a problem.

Post by Betamax001 »

I bought this VCR at Goodwill for 5 dollars. Yeah. 5 dollars. If it works Hey what a deal! If it doesn't no big loss. I would perfer for it to work, but id like to try and get it to work. So the problem? The thing doesnt turn on at all when plugged in the wall. i hooked it up to my old TV and hit power and...nothing. Nothing at all. I tried a different outlet. Nothing. My guess is that there is something wrong with the AC cord because of the lack of anything happening when plugged in.

Open it and check for fuses. Most electronics have 'em.

Any breaks, tears in the cord? Exposed wiring?

The Cord looks fine and I have never heard of a VCR that used a fuse.

It is! I only need the VCR to hook up my Saturn and PS2 in my bedroom. It has 2 RCA inputs which is nice. I could care less if i could watch VHS tapes. Id rather it be a Beta deck but oh well.

I'm currently working on an RCA Selectavision (VHS not CED) and it definitely has two fuses. Check the power supply area for any blown up (sweet) or burnt (not as sweet) components. If you're lucky it would be a capacitor or a diode. But if you're just using it for the jacks why not just get an av switch, it is a lot easier to work with.

My grandmother had a dvd player hooked up to a rf modulator that let her use the rca cables with her coax only tv. I think it was made by Radio Shack.

Good luck
