GBA SP Headphone Adaptors

Post by Whomper »

Quick query - just bought one of these for my new AGS-101 GBA SP (yay!), and it seems a bit... well, crappy. It's a very, very tight fit on the Ext port, and if you plug it in or take it out while playing a game, it crashes your GBA.

I don't recall the headphone adaptor I had years ago, when I first owned an SP, having this crashing problem (or the tight fit). Can someone advise whether this is par the course, or if mine is a particularly junky one?

Cheers!

Weird. Mine is a nice fit, and it doesn't crash anything.

Is yours a third-party brand and not Nintendo? I can see third-party brands doing this.

I've never ever seen a first-party headphone adaptor, even in the GBA's heyday.

The mistake I made was going for a no-name third-party job - I've ordered a Joytech to replace it, which fingers crossed will work a bit more nicely.

I have a 3rd-party headphone adapter, and it's been working fine for years.

Ah, the Nintendo Online Store only really exists in the US. I'm writing from a UK/NZ perspective. I never met anyone with a first-party headphone doofer.

Got a Joytech headphone adaptor in the post this morning, and it works perfectly - fits nicely, no crashing, shorter, more flexy cable and slimmer headphone socket. Win!
