Seedbox

Post by RCBH928 »

While I was browsing the internet I found this new thing to me called a Seedbox.
Now I did try to search for it but I am not getting the right idea , and I wish from the smart people here to explain it to me.

Now I understand this is for torrents and it lets you download and upload in amazing speeds, but is the bandwidth taken out of my ISP's cap? If not, then why would some ISP's ban it?

When I download torrents, are they stored on a server online and then I have to download them to my computer?

Would you recommend using them? Any brand in particular?

Can I use them for non-torrents downloads and file sharing with others?

What is the difference between them and OVH box?

A seedbox is just a server hosted by an ISP that you use to download torrents. This is done mainly because most home ISPs have very limited upstream bandwidth. Having a server on location at the ISP lets you tap right into their bandwidth and get great speeds.
Since the server you use to torrent is at another location, yes you do need to log into it and transfer your downloads to your home PC.

IMO, seedboxes are mostly for people who view their ratio as an extension of their penis. As long as your home connection is good enough to keep your ratio near 1, you don't really need a seedbox. It is awfully nice of those who can afford it to pay to rent a server to upload free shit to the rest of us however.

Since a seedbox is just a server that happens to be running bittorrent, you can use it for anything you would normally use a remote, always on, server for. e.g. hosting FTP, running IRC bots, etc. OVH is just an ISP that rents servers. Some ISPs are more torrent friendly than others since bittorrent can be pretty demanding on a network. OVH is apparently one of the more torrent friendly hosts.

aha
i see
its because I got a 12GB/month cap each month , so I figure why not use it?

On the other hand I already got enough games to play just worried that I need a ratio, because bitgamer is demanding really with newer games taking out 4 GB in download and 4GB in upload to maintain the ratio.

If you think that it is cheaper to buy games, sure it is, once you know what you want. I find that downloading games , playing them and figuring out which to actually finish is the best way of choosing games. Also A lot of games I would like just to play for few levels just to say that I did experience it.
