Well, my chair's dying.

Post by Mod_Man_Extreme »

This morning I went and sat down in my chair with the intent of playing Thunder Force V only to be stopped by the wrenching noise my chair made.

Seconds later I encountered this on the floor:

Apparently the hydraulic cylinder is leaking some weird black powder and a ball bearing fell out. I can still sit on it along with raising and lowering the seat, but I don't want to get anymore lack crap on my carpet.

Does anybody here know what's wrong with it?

Seriously man, time to go on a diet.

Do you think the bearing came out from the hydraulic cylinder, or from one of the wheels?
Also, the black powder may be oil that has gotten so old it is no longer viscous. Have you tried giving it a little love, WD-40 style?

Hope it all works out, buying a new PC chair can be quite research intensive.

I don't exactly know where the ball bearing came from, just that it was underneath the chair in the middle of the black powder.

As for the WD-40 I'll give that a shot, but I already called company and the chair's cylinder has a ten year warranty so I guess I'll be fine until I get the replacement.

Good to hear.

If you talk to the manufacturing/customer service representative again, see if they'll pay for shipping of your entire item for an exchange shipped to you at no cost. 95% of the time it works for me, even with Microsoft products.

Yeah that's what I'm going to do later tonight after I find the receipt for it.

Hope everything goes well. It's a sad day when a chair dies. :(

Good luck man. As long as you treat the customer service reps with a little respect, they're on your side. But some on the other hand...

I had a chair that I assembled myself from the box, used at my computer desk for three years. My brother broke it while trying to crack his back on it. I'm still bitter about it. :x

That black powder crap is probably graphite that was used as a lube for the bearing.
