Final Fantasy Help

Post by Cassidy »

 My name is Cassidy, and I've never played a Final Fantasy game.

Whew...that felt good to get off my chest.

OK, I've dabbled in FFVII back in the day and played a bit of FFIII on the DS.

FFIII put me off due to the steep difficulty level and I can barely remember FFVII - I know, shoot me.

So, if I were an alien who had just come to Earth with little to no knowledge of the FF series, what would I play? Obviously I can't play them all (cost prohibitive) so what are the best of the best and in what order should they be played?

Thanks. Nanu nanu.

You really don't need to play them in order from a chronological standpoint, as each one is its own world. A quick thing to note- If you don't know FF IV was released in America as FF II, and FF VI was released as FF III.

I'd suggest FF III (VI) For the SNES, It's not remarkably difficult, and it's far and away my favorite in the series. You should sort of get a feel for the series yourself because each game plays differently, so rather than seek the best I'd just avoid II (J), VIII, and while V isn't bad I'd save it for later. However, I've only played every game up through IX, so I don't know about X or beyond.

Another thing to note is that the SNES FFs are going to be cheaper to pick up, as well as FF 1 for the NES.

It's also worth noting that FF3 (or 6) was re-released as Final Fantasy 6 on PS1, as was FF2 (4).

I would play them some what in order. The first one was very simple (but still a good game), and they only get more and more in depth as they go on. So if you play 7, the first one might be lame afterward.

I would start with the remake of the first one on PS1. I hate the NES version, it's too slow, I can't play it. FF1 for PS1 comes on a disc with the real FF2 (not SNES FF2). If you ask me, it's not worth playing. Here's the one's I would play, in order...

FF1
FF4 (2 on SNES)
FF6 (3 on SNES)
FF7 (probably the best one)
FF9
FF12

I left out the ones that people tend to hate on. The above mentioned are solid games, and if you like RPGs, I'd be surprised if you didn't like them.

Though no one will ever agree with me, and they will tell you to play VII as it is the most well known and famous of all FF releases, I say give Final Fantasy VIII a go. Its set in a modern world, the characters and there development is awesome and the story is just sweet. If your new to the series, I would actually suggest starting with the newer installments like FFX or the PS1 releases, then once your hooked on gameplay elements, give the earlier installments a try as in the past I have seen friends get turned off the early versions because they are much more traditional.

Don't play FF2, it's broken. I also couldn't stand FF4, they kept stealing my part members and I had no clue who I was going to end up with by the end of the game so leveling become extremely annoying.

Hands down FF6 is the best. Runner up would be FFIII for the DS. I loved this one almost more then FF6. I didn't really find it hard though, I even disabled random battles half way thru the game and still was able to finish it.

FF8 is a strange. Having the enemies level up with you bugged me. It actually makes the game harder when you gain levels. I ended up beating the game at level 14.

Although if you want to talk about any Final Fantasy. FF7 Crisis Core for psp is one of my all time favorite games. I would really suggest playing that If you could only pick one FF game.

Don't play any of the PS2 games. If you plan on doing so, just rent the FF movie instead.

My recommended roster - 3/6 first, then 7, 4/2, 5, 1, 8, and if you still want more - 9.
Lol to someone who's never played any of them that probably looks like gibberish.

I've played some of them. But the USA vs Japanese numbering always screws me up. Haha.

I would start with Final Fantasy VI, as it has the most epic story in my opinion. Then I'd give Final Fantasy V a whirl, since it has the really nice job system. After that, I'd probably recommend XII, which was my favorite Final Fantasy since VI.
