Why do I preorder games?

Why do I preorder games?

Post by Kemiroch »

I apologize in advance, but I really need to rant!

Why do I preorder games?

I thought it was to get the little pre-order bonuses. I don't have a problem going to a store and picking up a game on its release date if I want it bad enough, but gosh darn it if those little tchotchkes offered with preorders aren't irresistible! However, it's not so much fun when you preorder, wait patiently til the game is released, and then don't receive your preorder bonus.

Case in point: A while ago I preordered Metroid Prime Trilogy on amazon. It came with a bonus poster, which, being a complete Metroid fanboy, I was excited about. Then I went over to GameStop and saw Whoa! they offer a T-shirt as well the poster! So, naturally, I cancel my Amazon order and switch it to GameStop. Now, a couple of days ago, I receive this little email from GS telling me they ran out of posters before they got to me. OK, I think, I was aware that might happen before I bought it. Disappointing, yes, but not unexpected. So I go to the GS site today to check my order status and lo and behold, now the t-shirt is backordered as well. I assume that means I'll be getting another email pretty soon. Sigh.

I have three other things preordered on GS: Muramasa, Scribblenauts, and A Boy and His Blob, all because of the bonus items. But, if 1 more gets me an email, I think im just going to cancel 'em all and go with my old standby, Amazon.

Ok that's my rant. Sorry.

All my systems are dead. Meaning there are no new GBA or Gamecube games. So I can't preorder shit. Maybe that's a good thing though, eh?

Your not alone I also preordered Metroid Prime Trilogy awhile back at Gamestop for poster and T-shirt and was excited till I also got an email that I wasn't going to get the poster. As for T-shirt usually preorder bonuses are stated as backordered right before they ship on release date like with BlazBlue art book bonus. I still got art book and BlazBlue at same time together...8)

Pre-Order at your local store instead of the internet as stores get priority over 'virtual' customers as they cancel their pre-orders all the time, but store made pre-orders are usually kept or rolled over to other games. This makes the local store's pre-orders much more valuable to the company and therefore higher up on the pre-order bonus ladder.

Plus at most GS stores like the one I work at we distribute the few bonuses we get (For example we have 6 Metroid pre-orders but only 4 shirts & posters to give away.) to the first people that ordered the game in order to give the shirts to the ones that really want it more than anybody, not the ones that pre-ordered it the night before just to get the bonus instead of the game.

Check your local GameStop, EB or other GS chain store (Babbages etc...) tomorrow and see of they have any spare shirts or posters to pick up the game with and you may get lucky.

I too have preordered these things at GS. Gotta love the rooster hat! I must ask, what tchotchke comes with Muramasa?

Just did the research. Awesome! We get a wall scroll. We get it just for preordering, right? No need to preorder the "game + Bonus".

Just preordering entitles you to the bonus, right? Also, the picture makes it look like it's made out of cardboard/paper. That's not a problem, but wall scroll generally means fabric.

Yup, pre-ordering the game nets you the bonus, but if there are more pre-orders than there are wall scrolls then most stores will either hand them out to the first people that pre-ordered it until the supply is gone, or hand them out as people pick up their pre-orders on the day the game comes out.

To be honest I don't know if that wall scroll is paper, cardboard, cloth or a printed reed mat.

I've never preordered anything in my life, but that chicken hat someone mentioned a while back sounded mighty tempting! Wonder if the offer is still available?

All pre-order offers are available until the day that the game comes out or so many are pre-ordered that they exceed supply. So you can still get it if you really want to.
