Where can I manfacture plastic gears?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Where can I manfacture plastic gears?

Post by Mod_Man_Extreme »

Well I've been looking into a project lately to begin restoring Sega CD Model 1's back to working order. The biggest problem with most units is that the plastic gears that both eject the disc tray and raise the laser assembly into place have usually broken, worn out, or have been mangled by users having forced the disc tray in by hand as well as general rough treatment.

So my main question is: Does anyone know of a plastics manufacturing company where I could have sets of these gears produced in either single or bulk quantities at a relatively decent price?
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

I don't know about a manufacturer, but I suppose you could make a mold out of a working gear and manufacture your own. But that's only if you want to get extreme. (pun not intended, but a pun all the same)

I'd do that, but that seems like it would take days to make each individual gear-set and I was thinking of getting a few batches made up and selling theme here on the forums for like $5-$10 or so (Just enough to recoup my losses and make a small profit.), that way more people than just me would be able to have working Model 1 Sega CD's again.

But exactly how much money is "alot of fucking money" as I'd totally go with that route if it wasn't outrageously priced.

Yeah, I think I'll just stick with trying to find a company that specializes in manufacturing parts to order.

I want to say that we can find someone with a 3d printer and have them print us a second one, but I doubt they work like that.

Well what I'm thinking of is to have some company make a batch of them from the specifications, sort of like how all of these small companies have been able to manufacture Sega Genesis cartridge shells for Beggar Prince, Legend of Wukong and Pier Solar.
