shmups in a similar vein to tyrian?

i just finished opentyrian and im hungry for more. for me it was the best shmup i played so far. i tried raiden and didnt like the "1 shot kill" system (yes, im probably not good enough for it).

can someone recommend a shmup:

1. where you arent killed with 1 shot
2. you earn credit during the level, which you can spend at the end (rather that collecting upgrades during the level).

i dont mind which platform it is on, so long as it is emulatable.

edit: btw i did read the shmups article on RB but its hard to gauge what the game actually feels like from the description and screenshots.

Sorry no can do... the above 2 conditions preclude the recommendation of any good shooters.

lords of thunder (SCD)(TGCD) sounds close. but you do earn powerups as you go but can also purchase upgrades at the end of a level.

Tyrian is fun for what it is.

I do agree however, that most great shooters are 1 hit 1 kill and operate on collecting in game powerups.

Cloudphobia for the PC is great and has a energy bar.

I cannot remember if Raptor was 1 hit and your dead but it was a pc shooter that controlled the same way and had upgrades that could be purchased for your ship.

Raptor has a health bar and is a pretty fun shmup from what I remember.

Hmm, it's actually pretty hard to find shmups with life bars...
