Re: Your First RPG
Would you count the D&D games on Intellivision? Because if so, those would be my first. My parents bought the console before I was born and played a lot (of various games) themselves.

Re: Your First RPG
Hmmm, it was either Pokemon Blue or Final Fantasy II for SNES. I don't remember which, but they're both some of my favorite RPG's even today.
Re: Your First RPG
im very upset with myself as of now because i can't for the life of me remember my first RPG. RPG's are my favorite type of game so this is pretty upsetting. i remember trying to play games as a kid but my brother would take them from my hands and take over. but those were mostly action and side scrolling games from the genesis era. but what took ahold of my most was these mysterious playstation games (final fantasy 7, 8, 9 and parasite eve) that were at my cousin's house. i would try to play them, only to be told that they are too hard for me, and on one occasion, to violent for me (parasite eve). well, i told myself one of these days i would play them and now i own them! so i believe that was my first RPG experience (if you don't count Zelda LTTP which i played awhile before). also i believe why i so into the retro genre is because i have been around any classic systems (nes, snes, genesis) yet was always told i couldn't play it. so now I'm making up for lost time. ^^

Re: Your First RPG
It was either Dragon Warrior/Quest or Final Fantasy on NES... Dragon Quest being the first I completed. I didn't really get into RPGs until SNES.

Re: Your First RPG
Glad to see someone else that started the same way I did. I borrowed FF from a friend and finished it though I needed to go back and do a lot of grinding to get through the end. I rented Dragon Warrior from the game store but never finished it. My first SNES RPG was Mystical Quest and I had Phantasy Star IV on the Genesis. I sold PS IV when it was still a very expensive game on the secondary market. I then discovered FF VII and a little game called Final Fantasy Tactics. To this day I prefer the strategy RPG more than the traditional Japanese RPG.glynnahab wrote:It was either Dragon Warrior/Quest or Final Fantasy on NES... Dragon Quest being the first I completed. Re: Your First RPG
I actually played Final Fantasy when it came out, but I didn't have an NES at the time. I simply had a friend who played it, so I went over to his house and played a little of it while I was there.
I then never played the genre again until I ended up getting Super Mario RPG for the SNES. That's what really hooked me into the genre, and then I went straight from that to Chrono Trigger, then Final Fantasy VI, etc.
Honestly, if it weren't for Super Mario RPG, I wouldn't have ever even known the name of the genre. No one really talked about RPGs back then.

Re: Your First RPG
Yeah I watched Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy being played by my neighbor but I didn't pick one up until Final Fantasy II (IV JPN) on SNES: such an incredible game. To actually tell a deep story in a video game blew mind at age 10, not to mention those opening Mode 7 graphics!
