Re: Your backlog?
I don't even want to try and figure out my backlog. I have to have well over 100 games I've gotten an played for maybe 5-20 minutes to make sure they work then put aside. My want list has over 100 more on it too thanks to places like Shmups and Hardcore Gaming 101. To think at one time my backlog used to just be a few SNES and PS1 RPGs that I would 'get to eventually'.

Re: Your backlog?
I used to have a backlog of maybe one or two games, but then I made the mistake of starting to play three games around the same time that felt more like work than fun: Final Fantasy VIII (PC), Mighty Bomb Jack (NES), and Legacy of the Wizard (NES).
I finished the NES games and I'm finally on the third disk of FFVIII, but progress is extremely slow, even using a walkthrough to speed me through the game. My relatively small backlog just keeps growing because FFVIII is the ONLY game I'm playing right now, but if I started up anything else, there's a really good chance I'd "forget" to go back to FFVIII, and then I'd never finish it.
That's the problem: I've already invested a HUGE amount of time into the game, and it would feel like more of a waste to stop right now than it would be to spend even MORE time trying to get to the end.
::sigh:: Good thing all the games on my backlog are way shorter: Ghostbusters, Star Trek: Legacy, Mega Man ZX and ZX Advent, Castlevania III, Rogue Squadron III, and this "Halo" thing people keep talking about... actually, I think that might be all I have right now.

Re: Your backlog?
I have about 200 games covering about 10 systems and I've completed only a small percentage of them. I enjoy buying them and playing them for a while. Than I'll get something else and want to try that out. It's a never ending cycle.
Than I have two young kids (6 & 3) that require a lot of time and I teach at a high school so the school year is shot. At this point I'm becoming a collector of older games as opposed to a gamer which is quite the opposite of what I was when I was younger. Now the older one is starting to play though so hopefully that will help me clear out some of the backlog at some point.

Click my backlogger banner in my signature and you'll see that I have the same problem. I just keep finding amazing deals, so I keep buying games figuring I'll never see them that cheap again. And the backlog grows.

yea, you can click mine as well, and if you need a friend you can add me on that site.
I don't have as crazy of a back log but I am lagging on a few systems.
Achievements screwed me up with 360, There was 6 months that I wouldn't play my older games because I was 2 crazy for achievements
Re: Your backlog?
I've got a huge amount of games I haven't played much of, but I don't really consider them part of my 'backlog'. For instance, I never got through much of Legend of Dragoon, Chrono Cross and a few other PSX RPGs, but I honestly don't ever plan to finish them. I just wasn't feeling it from any of them.
I do have quite a few RPGs I do wanna finish, though. Cross Edge, Valkyria Chronicles, Persona 4 and Growlanser V are the main ones.
I don't usually consider other genres to be on my 'To Do' list, seeing as they aren't nearly the timesink that RPGs are, but I did just pick up the Sly Trilogy for dirt cheap. I need to run through those games at some point.

Re: Your backlog?
I wanted to list off all my stuff and I really tried, but I give up. I left off a ton of gamecube and xbox games and my PS2 list is missing many games as well.

According to it, I have 196 games. That isn't counting the computer or what isn't listed. It says I've beaten 68 of my games. Which leaves double that number waiting to be beaten. At this point I'll be lucky to play them, let alone beat them.
And next week I'm buying a PS3 and all the games I missed out on there. Lair. Metal Gear Solid of course. Disgaea 3 (which I won't consider playing until I finished 1 and 2.) and a handful of other games.
Why do I feel like an addict? Like I've this habbit that I'm a part of and I can't stop. That I have to buy more, play more, beat more. Do it all. I can't be satisfied.

Re: Your backlog?
Having a website that gives you an idea on what you need to beat really helps
I added you as a friend on that site.
It's a great site
Just stick it out. No one is putting a time limit on it.
As long as you're not putting Food/family money into your game buying it's cool. I know a lot of people that just collect and rarely play their games. Keep an eye on Racketboy's "together retro" If a game pops up that you have, play along with the rest of the community. Really gets you into the game when other people are playing it as well.

Re: Your backlog?
I've never counted my games (probably as a means not to dismay myself from my obsessive compulsive behavior), but I'm sure the amount of unplayed games I own, not just unfinished games, is in the triple digits. I have close to twenty consoles and my particular buying habit is finding the best of each and every console (whether well received or obscure). Which is to say, I'm rarely a fan of experimenting. Rather, I like to rely on the praise of others. My penchant for controllers makes my buying habits even worse, as they cost quite a bit more and sometimes come with the caveat of being used for games that aren't so well received.
I've toned down my purchases in recent months, trying my best to completely ignore older consoles (as I've buffed out my collection for most older consoles pretty well already) and just looking at the rare new release that can justify itself. We'll see how my willpower holds up. I probably wouldn't be toning it down so much if I hadn't spent thousands in the months before.
