Buck Rodgers on SEGA. http://www.destructoid.com/blogs/random ... 9602.phtml
Never heard of it? Me either, but for some reason that was one of my first three Genesis games. I didn't get it at the time, but once I did, it became what RPG was. For the longest time I would play with my action figures with my cousin and we would use "buck rodgers" rules, movements and hps. All that nonsense for our toys. That was around 92? So I was around five or six at the time.
Also Dragon Warrior was a big turning point for me as well. I don't know, something about it really did it for me as a kid. I always tell the story that when I got to the internet and found out you could find cheats for games, Dragon Warrior was what I wanted to look up. I also wrote about Dragon Warrior's first game. If you did around a bit on my blog you'll find part two. If you've no information on it at all and were curious.
But Buck Rodgers was my first.

Re: Your First RPG
When I was a young kid, gaming was a pretty casual hobby for me. I grew up with games starting with the Intellivision, but it was more my older brother's thing than mine. At around 10 or 11, I met a friend who was really into RPGs. I went to his house one day to find him playing Final Fantasy III (VI). There was a rental shop down the street from him that would trade any game for any game. I traded TMNT: Turtles in Time for FFIII, and from there I was hooked. That, and the following years of great RPG releases from Earthbound to Chrono Trigger to Mario RPG and a little later Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shining Force III, cemented my love of videogames.
I don't often appreciate RPGs anymore, but it's hard not to appreciate where they came from. I had a good start.
I may have actually PLAYED Lufia before FFIII (it's hard to remember), but FFIII was certainly the first I ever completed.

Re: Your First RPG
Super Mario RPG was my first. I think it was Xmas 1996 and I had saw it in a pawn shop where my parents and I used to visit. I had told them how much I wanted it, but at the time we were extremely poor, like just above food stamps level. When I got it, I was so happy, and since then Ive always played RPGs. Maybe its because of that first time, with one of the best rpgs for one of the best systems ever, but to this day I still love Super Mario RPG, my first.

Secret of Mana for the SNES. That game was incredible and it was even multiplayer. I have great memories of that game.
Re: Your First RPG
Shining Force on the Genesis. I rented it when I was a wee lad, and I thought it was the weirdest thing ever, and I couldn't understand what was going on. Of course, now, I think it is an awesome game. Guess I was too young to appreciate things like that when I was 7 or 8(?)
Re: Your First RPG
Phantasy Star 2, I loved the way it looked and would watch the intro alot but I hated the mecanics it put me off RPGs for years actually. When I got into the genre properly I went back to it and quite enjoyed it I think at 10 I wanted something more imeddiate I got it for cheaps though £12 (it was £60 at the time)
