Your First RPG
What was the first RPG you ever played? Mine I remember quite clearly: Dragon Warrior I&II for the Game Boy Color. It's why I play JRPGs today. I liked it because it was easy, simple, and fun. I later played Dragon Warrior III, but I got to a really tough part that I never really got past. Then I played Dragon Warrior: Monsters 2 [Both versions], which I really liked. Finally, I moved on to Pokemon.

Re: Your First RPG
I think Quest for Glory(Hero's Quest) was the first RPG I played, I used to be big into point and click adventure games back in the day.
Re: Your First RPG
Unless you count Zelda: Link's Awakening, it would be Pokemon Yellow.
I was actually a bit unattracted to the genre for the longest time. One of my friends in High School was always talking about Chrono Trigger, but I didn't have a SNES at the time.
I think Skies of Arcadia was the first to get me significantly interested in the genre.
But I've never been super-into them. I like to play them for a while, but then I get distracted/lose interest. I love the idea of them and there are a lot that are interesting, but I don't have the discipline to follow through.

To me this is what sets average RPG's from the classics. I have started more RPG's than I have finished, the ones I finished are like a good book in that they hold my attention with a big 'WHATS NEXT!?' sort of thing and without making me spend hours grinding away at leveling up.

Well, keep in mind, my experiences include mostly classics like Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Golden Sun, Suikoden, Skies of Arcadia, Grandia II, and others. I've gotten pretty far in Skies of Arcadia, and Pokemon Yellow (is there an end to that one?) and rather far in Chrono Trigger and Golden Sun, but never actually completed any.
My wife once bought me Golden Sun 2 since I was really enjoying the original, but I ended up selling the un-used copy significantly later as I never finished the first one.
The hard part is once you've been away from the game, you forget some of the story and where you're supposed to go.
I also played some The World Ends with You a little while back and really liked that it seemed to help with the "getting back into" issue. But I just haven't been using my DS much lately.

Phantasy Star II. Even tho it can seem really rudimentary today with a very stiff translation, it still holds a special place in my heart. The plot twists in that game! Man.
I have a ton of games listed at my store's site: Super Smash Video Games
Re: Your First RPG
Although I have known about Pokemon, I did not get my first taste of an RPG until I was in high school(2004-2005). A friend first got me hooked on Super Metriod and we would discuss what was going on. He never finished that game(why? it's good) he told me he had picked up a copy of Chrono Trigger. I decided that I would give it a try. Since then I have two copies(maybe a third on the ds coming soon), the guide(for the heck of it), and the soundtrack(I think I'm a fan now)
I just now got started with playing Pokemon going backwards (Pearl, Sapphire, Crystal, Yellow, changing batteries all the way).

Re: Your First RPG
Yeah, Quest for Glory for me too, I had the Bard's Tale construction set around that time too. Now that I think of it, I really can't remember my first console RPG. I had an NES as a kid, but Zelda was the closest thing I had to an RPG there. I had a genesis too, but no RPGs either. I don't think I actually played a console RPG until I started playing around with emulators. Then it was probably Secret of Mana, or Dragon Warrior.

Dragon Warrior for the NES back in 89. I remember seeing the commercial on TV. They made it sound like it was the adventure of a lifetime and knew I had to have it. My, how far we've come.
Re: Your First RPG
Man, that's a hard one. I believe the first one I ever saw was a buddy losing to Zeromus on FF4, but the first one I ever played I think was Secret of Mana. Shortly afterwards I snagged Chrono Trigger and Earthbound and started renting FF6 (to purchase a bit later once I could scrape together the funds).
