Can you still buy a new xbox in stores?

Post by vanguardbandit »

Went to my local gamestop and picked up Marvel vs Capcom 2, Samurai Showdown V, Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, Capcom vs SNK 2, JSRF, and Metal Slug. I was planning to buy a new xbox since the 360s "backwards compatibility" doesn't play these games  and the gs employee said they don't sell new ones anymore only used :x Is there any place where I can still get one new? I also looked on craigslist but most of them look beat up and overpriced. Often their more expensive then GS. And if i have to buy used is GS a safe bet to buy a used system?

You should be able to return it if there is something wrong. Usually their return policy is pretty good, but I would ask them/get something in writing ahead of time if you are worried.

You could probably buy a new one on eBay as well...

Since nVidia stopped making the XBOX's GPU a while ago, good luck finding one. I'm sure if you buy a used one you may run into problems, but if you can see it in person or check on amazon for new ones, you'll be fine. Then again, can't you get pretty much all those games on PS2? :P You can do that OR wait until the 360's compatability gets a bit better. You must've spent a fortune though if you were buying those games at gamestop...dizzamn.

Wow. Gamestop doesn't have any Xboxes listed on their site new or used, and Amazon says $120 used and $300(!) new.

You might want to consider a modded used system. They're great for emulators and media playback and such.

Ahh that makes sense now that there impossible to find new. I'm thinking about getting a slim silver PS2, saw a few today. But I wanted to build my xbox library with some quality titles, I only had halo 2:? . I don't mind having the same games on multiple systems. I have street fighter alpha 3 for dreamcast, saturn and ps1 lol. I just bought a lot of xbox games today because my friend gave me the remaining balance of his store credit so I got MvC2 for free :D

Yeah I just checked and the prices are pretty crazy. I heard the xbox is an emulation beast I'll look into that.

Take a look on eBay, I just bought my xbox used there (I got a pretty good deal on it too). The best thing to do after getting an xbox is to mod it yourself, all you need is an Action Replay Max and "007: Agent Under Fire", "Mech Assault" or "Splinter Cell". It runs emulators great and it can run just about any old system you can think of (NES, SNES, N64, PS1, etc.)
