My Super Mario World 2 savegame erased for no reason today

I just started up the game today after not playing it for months, since I had won it, and the savegame erased. Is there any way to keep old cartdrige savegames from disappearing over time?

replace the battery whenever you add a game to your collection.
I don't know if there's anyway to back up snes/nes saves but you can change the battery rather easy.

Yup. Sounds like your game's battery has reached its limit. Unfortunately, dying batteries are pretty much inevitable, short of backing the savegames onto your computer there's nothing you can really do besides replace the batteries when they die.

Actually, it's very easy to back up SNES/NES saves if you have the hardware. The programmer for my SNES flash cart (from ToToTEK) will allow me to back up save data and flash save data to a cart. It's great if you wanna replace a battery and keep your saves. I was playing Super Punch Out on my flash cart until I got a real copy, then I just flashed my save file and continued right where I left off. RetroZone sells a programmer that will let you do the same thing only for the NES.

Yea, in fact gameboy games are the first ones I started changing.
Pretty easy. There's some good youtube how to's out there if you need step by step.
You can do it the clean way with a soldering gun or straight up just tape the battery in there.

You can't solder it, it's spot welded. Makes me wish I had a spot welder : (

You can buy new CR2032's that are already spot welded onto the two tabs, but they cost a little more.
