it doesn't look like we have a dedicated topic to the simpsons tv show. tons of mention of the arcade game, a few mentions in the sitcom thread, but that's it. why no dedicated thread to what was once the greatest animated show ever?
in junior high, high school, and college i would quote the simpsons all the time with my close friends. last year, when i was unemployed, i started watching a lot of the old episodes on my computer and keeping a detailed list of a lot of my favorite quotes: listing the quote, the episode it was from, and the time during the episode it was on. since i tended to watch the episodes out of order, my list got really messy. i haven't touched it for nearly a year either, but i might have to create a thread or even a little blog of these quotes. there were actually a lot i didn't remember growing up that i "discovered" just last year and thought they were great! one such example is when a random customer buys beef jerky at the quik-e-mart and apu asks "would you like some whiskey with that?" to which the guy replies "uuuuh, sure, what the hell". NICE!
a site i check daily for quick quotes and funny pictures is eye on springfield, which a friend told me about a few months back:

i disagree with their sentiment that only seasons 1-9 were good, and i think season 10 was the last season with a few good episodes (especially the one where the family goes to japan). frankly, later seasons that i would watch on tv when they were new only had ONE funny moment (but usually really funny) during the whole episode. that wasn't enough to keep me watching anymore, so i gave up. but i'm glad we still have the earlier stuff to keep us entertained (even though the first and second seasons aren't very funny either).

Re: the simpsons (tv show)
id say the seasons with Conan o brian as a writter were the best.
i just watched an episode two weeks ago, the one where the simpsons take grandpa to ireland. it sucked hard. its sad to see a good show go to shit.

Re: the simpsons (tv show)
Not sure when I lost interest. Seems like whenever I actually flip it on it's one I've seen a hundred times, which is rediculous because I'd guess I haven't seen probably 70% of them.
I've caught new ones here and there, they're not bad, and when they do something funny it's usually really funny, but I think I've lost interest more because whether it's funny or not, they've done basically all there is to do with those characters. The show has become a little too self referential too, which is funny sometimes, but I think they overdo it. The humor has also become sort of a simpsons/family guy mashup too, and I've lost interest in family guy for the most part too.

Re: the simpsons (tv show)
I used to be really, REALLY into the show, but then I lost interest. I had literally seen every episode of the show at least 3 times. My favorite season was definitely the 6th one. I had watched it about 12 times in a row, individual episodes many more times. But, now I'm done with the show, mainly because after you've seen a show so many times, you start to get bored of it.

As a regular of SNPP, I concur.
It sucks now.
But the oldies are pure gold.

Re: the simpsons (tv show)
i've been watching the show since it first became it's own tv show. maybe even before that, because i owned a simpsons sticker book (anyone remember those books where you buy packs of randomly selected stickers for the book like trading cards?) around 1989, and i saw an old family video from 1988 that had the tracy ulman show in the background. i've seen most of the good episodes a minimum of 10 times each and i still don't get tired of them. sometimes i get home from work and just want to relax, so i'll watch those old episodes i've seen so many times but i always find something new in them (such as the quotes i missed in my youth... even though i'm not that old).
i think a lot of things i used to like growing up started sucking in general around the turn of the century though. seems like everyone got angry (as opposed to the sarcastic and cynical lighthearted 90's, lala lala la) and humor felt very forced. the thing that bugged me a lot about the later simpsons was when bart would say something clever, he would have to talk in a loud voice as if to say "i'm SOOO deserving of everyone's attention" as opposed to muttering something to himself or being naturally funny.
i think when greg daniels did most of the writing is when the simpsons was at its best (he also co-wrote king of the hill with mike judge, and is responsible for the u.s. version of the office!). and i didn't know conan o' brien wrote for the simpsons

Re: the simpsons (tv show)
I play Senor Burns at dances when I DJ to a younger crowd...
I sadly do not own the dvds, but I will be fixing that soon - atleast the first eight seasons. It has gotten better in the past few seasons, but it is still not as great as when Scorpio was shown. A character they should bring back...

I can still watch it and laugh no matter how many times ive seen them. Some new episodes are trash, but alot are damn good IMO.
As for Family Guy, Im just damn tired of it. There is no need for this show to be syndicated on 4 networks. It also seems like they have about 30 episodes to choose from because the same ones air over and over. Adult Swim is a little better but not by much.

Re: the simpsons (tv show)
I'd kinda prefer they don't bring any really good old characters back, best to leave them in the past when the show was great.
Was anyone else really disappointed with the movie? I watched it as a grainy video online so maybe I owe it at least a rental, but it didn't really feel as epic as I was hoping. It wasn't even so much the story, and it was relatively funny, but it was so damn short. It just felt like 3 episodes stitched together. I felt like the gags maybe needed to be more planned out and feel less like quick snippets like the walrus gta thing.
