Having trouble retro gaming now.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I think it depends how you play a game, if you pick up a game(especially a retro game) and play it with that nerdy ocd grindy style its easy to get burnt out on stuff especially when your trying to 100% game after game after game. Even though its so satisfying to conquer a game I think moderation is the key to not turning on the hobby that we all are obsessed with. I like to mix my hardcore stuff with something that is kinda easy and aesthetically pleasing, and there is no shame in putting down a game that is kicking your ass.

Shoot, I jump from machine to machine for a while. I've spent the last few months playing the PS2 the most, but now I'm getting into a lot more PC gaming. We'll see where I am at the end of the year. Just play what you want, and when the urge comes to play something else, go do it.

Not to get off topic but I must chime in about how good the Age of Empires games are. Also Rise of Nations is a blast. I lent my copy to a friend but it'd be a blast to get some people together and have a game.

I'm not sure how old games have to be before becoming "retro," but I do believe that some games are simply timeless. I've been playing around with System Shock 2 + some mods on an old laptop and I find it really intriguing.

If something polished and quality comes down the pipeline I'm happy to pick it up. However, I find that waiting a few years allows the hidden gems to come to light and the hype and marketing around unworthy titles to die down. There are a lot of really terrible retro games out there, but most of us focus on the cream of the crop. This isn't to say that there haven't been important genre shifts that separate retro games from what's coming out today.

There is no "new" games, and no "retro" games, only games.

That's the way I see it anyway. I can go from playing my SNES to playing my Wii without even thinking about it.
Exactly how I feel, I jump between systems left right and center, right now im play Zelda II, Dragon Quest 8 and Prototype. It never think about which system im playing, if the game is good I will play it.

Bingo. The systems to me are irrelevant. I honestly don't care what I'm playing on. If I want to play some Sonic, I'll pull out the Genesis. If I want to play some Banjo, I'll pull out the 64. If I want to play Mirror's Edge, I'll pull out the 360. I'm in this hobby for the games, not to define myself as a "retro gamer" or a "new game gamer" (which will all become retro eventually, anyway). Basically, new, old, retro, vintage, modern, contemporary, Sega, Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, etc. It's all the same. Play what you want, on what hardware you want, when you want. Play the games, don't let them play you.
