DRM free digital distribution sites.
DRM free digital distribution sites.
Theres been a lot of discussion on here about this whole digital distribution crap lately which made me ask a question to myself. Aside from www.gog.com, are there any other reputable DRM free digital distribution services out there? The quick answer to myself would be no, but you guys are a resourceful bunch and was wondering if you had any you use. Any suggestions? thanks
Re: DRM free digital distribution sites.
I think he wanted websites with DRM free stuff. The Pirate Bay will become a DRM filled useless pile of shit website in only a few days.

There ya go.
Re: DRM free digital distribution sites.
I think he wanted something legal. I'm sad to say, I don't know of anything else that distributes games DRM free.
Music was this way in the beginning, and now even Apple is DRM free. Eventually software developers will see that DRM puts their legit users at a disadvantage compared to pirates, and they'll quit using DRM too. I wouldn't expect that anytime soon though.

How'd I know someone was going to be a douchebag and say Piratebay. Anyways, you'd have to be a fucking idiot to download the virus filled software from there. I'm looking to buy my games from a legal service like Steam minus the DRM shit, not pirate them. Thank you in advance!

Impulse was drm free for a while, until their GOO drm came along (no relation to GOG.com) You can still get a lot of games from them drm free, including all of stardock's stuff, but you'll have to do a little research first.

Thanks Moz, I knew that there had to be at least one out there.Mozgus wrote:Impulse was drm free for a while, until their GOO drm came along (no relation to GOG.com) You can still get a lot of games from them drm free, including all of stardock's stuff, but you'll have to do a little research first.

A lot of games sort of meet us half way in terms of DRM. Like Company of Heroes for example. It will only ask you for your disc if you don't have an online connection. Otherwise it just automatically logs in quickly on the game's bootup and you can play without the disc all you want. I own the complete COH series on Impulse and actually havent seen what happens if I play with no connection. I certainly didn't get a disc. I assume that's where the GOO drm comes in and...."helps" me.corn619 wrote:Thanks Moz, I knew that there had to be at least one out there.Mozgus wrote:Impulse was drm free for a while, until their GOO drm came along (no relation to GOG.com) You can still get a lot of games from them drm free, including all of stardock's stuff, but you'll have to do a little research first.
Edit: Nope. Without internet, the game asks me for a disc. That's fucking great. My digital copy is actually less functional compared to the retail copy. God dammit, fuck DRM.
