PC games inquiry

Post by RCBH928 »

This thread is a bit mixed so I decided to put it in here.

I want to know if any one tried Discworld on scummvm , does it work? On some sites It says it is not supported on the scummvm it says its 98% supported. I am not sure?

I forever wanted to play Dungeon Keeper. Would you say it is worth it to play 1+2 or which one of them? I dont want to make the GTA mistake, where I bought all 3 of them. They were great games, but it was the samething 3x.

Gabriel Knight: Sins of our fathers and The Beast within. Any one played them using DosBox? Will they run natively on XP? What is the best way to run those titles? How does switching CD's work in Dosbox?

Trust the Scummvm website. I did play Discworld, and I think it must have been on Scummvm, but it was long enough ago that I don't remember. If the Scummvm site says 98%, then it should work fine.

I haven't played Dungeon Keeper, so I'd be interested in an answer to that too.

I haven't played the Gabriel Knight games since Win 98 was current. But disc swapping on Dosbox is straight forward. Just supply all four ISOs as parameters to the 'imgmount' command, and swap with ctrl-F4. Like this:

imgmount d gk2-d1.iso gk2-d2.iso gk2-d3.iso gk2-d4.iso -t iso

Unfortunately, there's no indication which disc you currently have active, which can get a bit confusing if you're swapping a lot, as I remember GK2 did.

SCUMMVM supports Discworld now. Get the newest version, you'll be fine.

Play Dungeon Keeper 2, though good luck getting it working in XP.

The Gabriel Knight games should work just fine--you might not even need to use DOSbox. There's actually a patch out there for the first one to make it run natively in XP, too.

I tried Dungeon Keeper Gold (DK1) on WIN XP not so long ago and it worked...So I suppose DK2 should work at least as good as DK1.
I've got no signature.

I would go with DK2 were I you. It's more of the same from DK1 with added features and such. It's also tons of fun.

DK2 will work with XP but you need to use software rendering unless you have an ancient graphics card. And I mean a graphics card that's at least 10 years old.

You could always do what Fast does, and run three virus scanners...

If I remember correctly, you can get DK2 to run inside Virtual PC, too.

(another awesome PC game of note that you can do this with more easily than running on XP is the fantastic voxel-based sci-fi sandbox RPG Outcast)

(seriously, go play it right now)
