You can't say that it "illuminates the health consequences of video-game playing" when it's only correlational. This doesn't mean that videogames make you depressed, fat, and introverted. It could just as easily be that depressed, fat, and introverted people are drawn to videogames for enjoyment because it's something that requires little effort or interaction with others.
Having an age range from 19-90 is smart because it better captures a wide range of adult ages. Although, it would be smart to include children since so many kids play games.

If you take video games out of the picture, you still would end up with the average person being fat and depressed. It's not very fair of them to spin the story to make video games look bad. I doubt video games are the main reason people are fat and depressed anyway. There are much worse things out there to get depressed about.

Yeah, this is kinda like the "kids who play football are more likely to become violent" study. It's not that the activity makes the person that way, it's just that that kind of person is attracted to that activity (as JT stated).

What's weird is I remember reading an article a while ago about how gamers are actually in better health then most.
http://www.livescience.com/technology/0 ... urvey.html
That wasn't the exact article, it wasn't based solely around mmorpg.
But still.... what do we believe.
I can only speak for myself,
I am not overweight nor am I depressed (or on medication)

It looks like the researcher who did the study could lose a pound or two himself. Perhaps too many hours behind a desk analyzing data and telling other people how to live their life leads researchers to become fat, bald, and arrogant.

Lol 'bummed' in this country means a male who has taken it up the arse (or ass as you lot call it).

I should write an article that says one thing about gamers, then write the exact opposite the next day and see which is more popular.

I hate when newspapers say "A study says bla bla" but don't say anything about how they did it.
Not that it matters when you know it's so wrong.

Re: Study: Average gamer is 35, fat and bummed
I am 33 and nowhere near out of shape, and a gamer. I also read comic books and do not live in my mother's basement. I am happily married and own my own home.
Not only am I a gamer but also a fitness buff, coach, science teacher, and comic book reader. In my basement along with my video games, I have a workout room full of fitness equipment. I workout and run everyday - I even have a Playstation with a special one-handed controller to use while running on the treadmill.
As someone who cares a lot about his body and spends a good ammount of time keeping it in shape, I am offended by these type of generalizations about gamers...
