Blinking NES. Need advice

Post by Mr.White555 »

So I recently got a nes at a flee market and unfortunately it is a blinker. I got it for a cheap enough price to where I am willing to buy parts to fix it....

I tried cleaning the 72 pin connector and the contacts on the motherboard. It still doesn't work...

I only have one game and it is pretty dirty, I have tried cleaning it but it isnt as easy as a snes cart. So should I go out and buy another cart that is cleaner and hope it will work OR should I just go ahead and get a new 72 pin connector. Btw I have tried bending the connectors and that didn't work.

try my favorite childhood trick that never failed: when you put the cartridge in and it's situated to where you just have to press the power button, place your index fingers on each side of the cartridge and wiggle it side to side. it worked every time for me, and while i can't guarantee weight loss or increase in your sex drive, you should be able to play the game without any blinking.

OMFG that almost worked!!! The game looks fubar though gonna try again. Ty in advance if this works

Edit*** I couldn't get any better results. The game works but its seriously messed up. So either I have some really bad/pirated copy of batman or the connector is screwed. I think Im gonna go ahead and get a new connector.

obviously we all know the old blow-in-it trick.

I used to use one also where you'd insert the game ALMOST all the way in, so that when you pushed it down it sort of clicked the NES. Does that make sense? I'm not quite sure how to explain it.

you could outright replace the pin connector.

yep...id say this would work

try cleaning the game again...i like to use a q tip and some windex...ive felt this has worked better than rubbing alcohol

id also say if you have one try a game genie with the game if no game genie then place the game in the nes so the game almost wont go down...i always made it so i sorta had to put some force behind it

EDIT: i always liked that batman game but sucked at it

i would think it'd be cheaper to get your hands on another game and try that before replacing the connector. if you get the same results with another game, then your goal is clear.

The connector is about $10, and you'll have to replace it eventually anyway. So might as well replace it now.

The best way to describe it is you insert the cart with the tray popped up and wiggle it out toward you enough so that it JUST can clear the casing below when you push it down. In other words, it's as far out as it can go while still fitting in. That's what's always worked for me.

I agree - find another cart where the pinouts look really good and try that before going for a new connector. New connectors are great for the NES, though.
