Halo

Post by silverback »

Done a search but it never really gave me an answer.

I don't have any Halo games, well I do, Halo but its NTSC and I don't have a modded xbox to play it on. My only experience playing it was in HMV for about 30 seconds when it first came out.

So Halo, is it worth buying? Do I get them all?

I have no interest in multiplayer, tbh that puts me off games. I'm not daft enough to spend money so I can play people elsewhere.

So opinions on single player campaigns on them.

Play them in Coop and you will have far more fun with them. They will look worse, but they are better games that way.

Do know that the teammate AI, especially in 2, is very poor.

I think most of us can agree that Halo was amazing and somewhat unmatched upon its release. But of course there have been so many better FPS games released since that time.

At least I tend to think so

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Halo was a pretty standard FPS. It was pretty, but repetitive. Story's okay, but Marathon did it before, nearly. It's worth playing, however, but it's not a must-play.

I have very strong feelings when it comes to Halo and what it did to FPS's as a whole. Ignoring that part, when it came out on the PC I downloaded it and played through a portion of the campaign. I found it rather unremarkable and outclassed in terms of fun by several other PC games.

At the time it was considered better than pretty much any other console FPS at the time. If you play to pick it up on PC or Mac, you can do so, so much better.

Halo pretty much standardised the FPS experience on consoles, along with solid online play that the PS2 and Dreamcast both failed to establish before the debut of the Xbox. But as a long time fps player on PC it just felt like another run of the miller shooter.

Hmm so nothing special then.

Might see if I can borrow them first

If you have a DirectX9-capable PC you can try the Halo PC demo.

It's certainly not BAD, and it's got some pretty excellent setpieces, but it also has The Library, which goes on forever and sucks.
