Well I'd say our politicians have a good understanding of politics, and yet they spend most their time arguing with eachother. I don't think having everyone understand politics would mean everyone would have the same view, there's no definitive answer to any of these debates.
I just meant that if we were all politicians none of us would be engineers, scientists, etc.
But you're right, most political debates are pointless. At least between the two opposing sides. I'm more interested in watching them or even being a part of them just for the sake of learning something. Even if I only apply what I learn to a single vote every 4 years.
Even though I've never voted. . . .

Maybe you're onto something there. I'm sure there are also a lot of morons out there who can't be trusted with the responsibility of operating a car either. Perhaps we need to tighten up our driving tests etc, but that's another argument altogether.MrPopo wrote:

Does it not worry you guys that even the most unintelligent members of society can be driving around with a car?
Are there not far too many people that can't be trusted to drive around such a dangerous vehicle?
That's the case where I live anyway. Far too many idiots around and the concept of them driving cars doesn't bear thinking about.
Wow... that's eerily accurate.
The primary function of a car is not to be a weapon that wounds and kills. With guns however, that is the primary function. That's the difference.

Re: GUNS GUNS GUNS!
In fact this scares me more than the guns, and it is a problem in Europe (and a big problem in Portugal). I have a driver's license, but I don't like driving (fortunately) so I don't have a car (for other reasons as well). I really worry about other cars. I must be one of a hundred or so Portuguese drivers that actually keeps within the law when I drive (speed limits, stopping at STOP signs, respect walkers in crosswalks, not accelerating when the traffic light goes yellow etc.). I hope I'm exaggerating, but unfortunately I don't think I would be too off if there were some 1000 or so here that actually respect those things (others think they're for chumps, I guess).MrPopo wrote:You know what's a fun exercise? The argument goes something like: Hussein Obama wants to take our guns! Once he does that we'll have no way to defend ourself from those socialists taking over our country!
Whatever your opinion of the president or his agenda, this isn't the 1800s. Your shotgun is not going to stand in the way of any sort of massive government takeover. Take a look at Iraq. What are the insurgents accomplishing other than prolonging the inevitable? Civilians end up paying the price for the most part.

MORE GUNS -
This dude had an ar-15 out there at the protest this time, I wonder if that first guy sparked something.

Re: GUNS GUNS GUNS!
I have to wonder if bringing guns to these protests will help their cause or hurt it. It is obviously bringing the issue to light, but maybe that's a bad thing for them? I think more than anything it is bringing to light the lax restrictions on gun ownership.
