Famicom Gamecube?

Post by noiseredux »

Y'know those weird import adapters that run Famicom games? Like the Famicom Time Machine SP for GBA, or the CYBER Familator Lite for NDS? Does anyone know if either one would work (fit physically) with the Gamecube Gameboy Player?

The Time Machine won't fit(the Gameboy Player's footies keep it from reaching the cartridge slot). You might be able to mod it(cut the footies off).

It does work, it just doesn't fit.

Sucks. Well there are other models out there I guess. I'd love confirmation that one of them works without cutting anything up.

This is the Cyber Familator Lite, which is similar to the Time Machine, but it's flatter as to accommodate the larger DS Lite base. Maybe that would fit the Gamecube physically?

I'm surprised that there isn't more of an interest in this concept. I mean think of it like this:

Gamecube + Gameboy Player + Famicom adapter + Famicom to NES converter =

1 hardware unit that is capable of playing full, official (not roms!) libraries of Gamecube, (all regions of) Gameboy/Gameboy Color/GBA, and US and Japanese NES/Famicom.

That's a pretty amazing machine if you think about it. Again, I realize that there's a lot more that you could do with some emulators and roms. But I'm not interested in that. I think it's a neat concept that one machine put together like this could play the original carts of all these gigantic libraries of games put together.

ooh ohh! AND if you could figure out how to attach a Famicom Disk System to it all...

Have you tried this? Do you have one?

Maybe there's a way to disassemble the plastic casing of the adapter to make it fit. Hmmm.

That won't fit since it's made specifically for the DS lite therefore the cartridge slot is only half the size of a normal GBA cart, therefore it won't reach the connectors inside the gameboy player.

ah. Good point. I hadn't thought of that. I think that the closest thing that would work would be taking the SP Time Machine and "trimming" the plastic. In theory anyway.

I'm bumping this because I keep thinking about it...

in theory, these Famicom-GBA units are just cart adapters with a bunch of plastic on the outer shell. I'm wondering if it would be possible to open one of them up and create something similar to the 72-pin adapters that get made from Gyromite carts. Know what I mean?
