You still can't play games on non HDTV's with a 3000 model, but both the 2000 and 3000 support outputting picture, video and the XMB via Standard Definition.BoringSupreez wrote:I'd go with the 3000. The 3000 has scanline issues, but it's not as bad as they look in screenshots when you are actually playing, and it has an output that works with non-HD TV's, instead of only HDTV's like the 2000. The 3000 also has better colors. Games intended for the 2000 look washed out on the 3000 because of this, but you can fix this by setting the screen settings to original colors and brightness, instead of the more vibrant 3000 specific settings.

Re: What is the best PSP model?
I've owned a 1000 and 2000 I like the newer model as it is slimmer loads a bit faster has a bit better screen with the tv out (I never got around to using it though) only reason to go with an original is if you like the hefty feel and want to do emulation and such. The new one I hear is still quite well built and looks nice though visually I prefer the older models however the pricing seems high and I hate the lack of UMD support

Re: What is the best PSP model?
Ok here's a secret about the PSP 2000's load times:
They're Not Faster!
Sony added a UMD cache feature in addition to a bit more ram for the UMD drive to store data, but no developer has ever used either feature in any game yet, and the UMD drive is still a 1x speed drive the same as the PSP 1000's. I doesn't load faster, it's just you thinking that it loads faster, nothing more.

Re: What is the best PSP model?
So when is someone going to figure out how to use a ps3 controller on the GO - without hardware modding? Once they get that configured for 2+ ps3 controllers on it, itll be a must buy for mobile PSX games.
Re: What is the best PSP model?
2000 can play games through RCA if you have Custom Firmware and install the plugin FuSa_SD - http://foosa.do.am/
The last version I tried wasn't that great, but it's probably better now. The old version I had to do a lot of settings tweaking to get decent picture & gameplay.
It looks like the plugin can make games play full-screen through component all the time aswell now...

I would never trade away my 1000 for anything in the world but I would like to have a 2000 for its TV out and multitasking in IRshell.
Go with the 2000 model its the better one overall.

Re: What is the best PSP model?
Quite frankly, I love my PSP 3000. I got the Rock Band Unplugged set for 200 bucks on Amazon (no tax and no shipping charges ^_^) and I love it. It does what I wanted it to do that being playing PSP games. Watching movies on the PSP is pretty awesome because the PSP screen is alot better than my main TV (o.O) so movies look great.

Re: What is the best PSP model?
I personally don't notice any difference in the loading times between a PSP 1000 and a 2000, despite the 2000 having double the amount of nand ram. The loading times seems to be affected more by the setting of the cpu/ramclock (i.e. a 266/133 setting will be far slower when loading than 333/166), but both the PSP 1000 and the 2000 onwards have support for changing the clocks if you have a CFW.
I guess this non-difference may be a result of the developers wanting full backwards compatibility and optimizing their games for the psp 1000 only.
As for what you can do with a PSP, I have a custom firmware and Remotejoy installed, which means I can play most of my games (some games hang) on my PC using a gamepad.

It can go fullscreen and is perfect for widescreen. But yeah, most of the games are showing their pixelated edges. Tekken DR kind of looks like a late PS1 game.

Oh, and I forgot. One disadvantage of the PSP-1000 is the crappy D-pad. It's a bit lower/recessed than the PSP-2000's, and can be difficult to use for fighters.

Re: What is the best PSP model?
The D-Pad issue can be fixed with a chunk of plastic. There's lots of guides for doing the simple mod. My friend used a chunk of a NES cartridge sleeve.
