Applying for a TF2 Clan: What should I do?

Post by Erik_Twice »

Since you are all seasoned players perhaps some of you have played some games competitevely before and could help me. Even if you don't you can give us some advice, probably it will be useful.

A friend of mine and I seek a local TF2 clan to get a bit into the competitive TF2 scene which seems very fun. I localized the ESL website which seems some kind of videogame league and a competitive TF2 site. Both seem good places to ask but I would like some tips.

We are not great players but eager to improve. We would like a clan that plays Highlander and not only 6v6 and has a friendly atmosphere so we are not jumping in the first clan that lets us in.

Our problem is that we are best with the engineer and the spy and they are not played in 6v6 , the most played format. We can play Demoman and Medic a bit too but nothing special. Do you think they would like some n00bs that want to be pro?

My idea is to explain a bit about how we see the game and not lie about our skill, that we seek a clan to improve and have fun but without ignoring the competitive factor because we understand it well but truth to be told, we are pretty exigent and the spanish competitive scene of ANYTHING tends to be pretty bad.

So, what do you think?

Well, anytime you are honest about your skills, because those who rant about 133t skills, they usually look the dumbest by any serious clan when it comes down to playing.

All I can really say is if you are serious about the game, learn all the rules and the minor nuances to play the game well. Learn all of the tricks by playing public servers for a while, and improve your skills across the board. Most clans usually are more impressed with a well-rounded player that can play most classes above-average.

Another thing you might want to think about is team cooperation. I've seen many people in team oriented games who always hot-dog and go off and do their own thing, sometimes trying to impress. Be a supportive team player, and take the initiative when shit hits the fan during a match. Good communication is also a must to be respected, and to win.

Lastly, just don't be a dick to put it bluntly. Noone wants to play with someone who easily gets irrational, points fingers and won't aid a teammate. Be respectful!

Otherwise, have fun, and I'm sure in no time you'll find a group of people who you have fun playing with on a regular basis. Make friends on Steam too!
Cheers!
