Having trouble retro gaming now.

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Having trouble retro gaming now.

Post by RyaNtheSlayA »

It might just be a little fickle thing im going through but the concept of retro gaming keeps escaping me lately. Maybe I'm just being lazy and don't feel like walking over, picking a game, and playing it when I could just boot up my iMac and play Rise of Nations or UT2004. Or if I'm just tired of it for a while. I think its the hunt of the games thats losing me. Its exhausting.

Have any of you felt this way? I love video games, but I think I just need a break from retro for a while.

Every couple months to a year I get worn out on videogames and switch to another hobby to fill my time. Not to say I am not a fan or keep up with them, I just dont hunt or search near as much as I typically do. During these times books and boardgames usually take priority. After a month or so the feeling passes and I am back where I left off.

There is no "new" games, and no "retro" games, only games.

That's the way I see it anyway. I can go from playing my SNES to playing my Wii without even thinking about it.

I got Jet Set Radio Future a couple of months ago, and because I'd never played it, to me it felt like a brand new release - even though it came out in like 2002.

Never hurts to switch things up sometimes. I wouldn't want to eat the same thing for dinner all the time. :D

Eh, I don't think about it. I don't go "I'm sick of retro, I'm gonna play next gen for a while" never occurred to me. I've been playing a lot of SNES and DC though, and eternal sonata, L4D on 360.

If you like Rise of Nations, try Age of Empires II for some retro fun. It's the best in that series. For retro FPS, try out Duke3d on the eduke32 engine. And there's tons of games you can play on your iMac with dosbox.

I'm a huge fan of Age of Empires. And strategy in general. Always liked the older strategy games too like AoE(II) and Command and Conquer.

For a few months at the beginning and end of the year I stop buying games completely. It's called the school year.

It's funny how I spend countless hours a week reading about modern gaming, but rarely playing it. I only have my PC for that, and I tend to hate almost every game thats been coming out for it. It feels like in another year or two, I'm just going to give up hope entirely and go back to 100% retro games. I have 100's here waiting for me to play.
