N64 or Saturn?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Should I buy an N64 or a Saturn?

Saturn, IMO.

Saturn had much better third party support, so if you can deal without having Mario related games, I find it superior. Plus, this was a period when Sonic Team was still relevant and releasing fun and interesting games (See: Burning Rangers). I am sure that many will be quick to disagree, but that's how I see it. :P

Die Hard: Arcade (Dynamite Deka) might just be the greatest co-op experience ever created.

No doubt about that. The Saturn actually has quite a nice selection of co-op games, specifically beat-em-ups.

D&D Collection
Three Dirty Dwarves
Guardian Heroes
Die Hard Arcade

By the way, I was recently surprised to learn that Three Dirty Dwarves was also released on the PC.

While I love both, go for the Saturn. Either use the swap trick OR a mod chip (which is sold many places, including the Racketboy store). All you'd need then is a shitload of CD-Rs and a way of DLing and burning images (aside from torrent sites, try EmuParadise or SegaSaturn V-Force). They're smaller than most PSX images.

And this way, you can still play all of the uber-rare games out there.

Whereas with the N64, to play ROMs, you'd have to make (or buy?) a flash cart.

Nintendo 64 and it's not even close for me,

but I just was watching some old Saturn commercials on youtube and I think I know why the Saturn failed. These commercials freak the hell out of me. From the creepy voice over to the crazy head at the end, I don't know what they were thinking. Seriously that voice over is straight from a horror movie. For some reason I don't remember these when they were actually being shown. I think that was the age I was more interested in trying to chase girls than videogames though, I missed the entire Saturn/64/PSX war.

Still interesting that Sega was still going strong against the competition in their ads just like back with the Nintendont stuff.

I had a PC during the N64 era so N64's popular shooters like Perfect Dark and Golden Eye never appealed to me. I also didn't like the N64's wonky controller.

It may be my preference in games that also slants my view here as I liked 2D fighters like Street Fighter Zero2 and 3D fighters like Virtua Fighter2 and Fighting Vipers at the time. I also loved the (albiet limited) library of RPGs on the Saturn.

*looks at poll results* Alrighty then. Nintendo 64 it is! *buys*

I'm kind of a platformer whore, but I still love shumps, fighters, beautiful RPG's and action/adventure 2D games. I've been wanting an N64 for a while now, but the Saturn still looks oh so delectable. It was a tough decision, but coming from what you all have said, I've sided with Nintendo for this one.

You won't be disappointed with your purchase. Hell, the N64 is worth it for Ocarina of Time alone.

Might I suggest Ogre Battle 64. It's an amazing game and the replay is nearly infinite.
