N64 or Saturn?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Should I buy an N64 or a Saturn?

N64 or Saturn?

Post by newt42 »

Just got enough money for both. I own neither. Which console should I buy?
Systems: SNES, PS1, GBA SP, Gamecube, DS Lite, Wii, PS3 (Fully Backwards Compatible), Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, a Sega CD, and a Sega Saturn.

Imo N64. Many great 3D platform games, kart racing games, and some obscure gems.

On the other hand if you love JRPGs (mostly SRPGs) or shooters go with the saturn.

This is like a weird game where you give away the answer before you even ask the question.

The answer is: Both.

It depends on what kinds of games you like. Saturn games are not going to be as cheap as N64 games, due to the high demand and rarity of some games.

Saturn: 2D awesomeness (mostly imports)
N64: sweet 3D library of games without load times

Well, do you want Nights into Dreams, Panzer Dragoon, and Virtua Fighter? Or do you want Mario, Zelda, and Golden Eye?

I like both. I appreciate the exclusives that came to both systems. And thats where my little problem here comes into play.

I would say go the N64, there are more 'must have classics' that are easier to get a hold of at the moment than the Saturn.

A bigger question I think is how much have you played (ie how many of the 'greats' have you all ready played / finished) each console all ready?

More to the point, I dont know whats its like over there but N64's (The console) are much easier and cheaper to find than a Saturn, make sure your not over paying for the N64 (Heck if your lucky your underpaying for the Saturn).

Playing copies is significantly easier on a Saturn than on an N64.

I would say N64. For the most part the games are cheaper and much easier to find in the wild. The Saturn is way rad, but collecting for the thing can become addicting and costly really fast. Plus, the all but essential Action Replay and 3D controller do make the price a bit steeper than the 64's.

If you want to own legit copies of some of the really good Saturn games then you'll have to spend a lot more than on the N64. That said, if money (or running backups) isn't a problem, I'd definitely go with the Saturn.

It's funny though, the N64 and Saturn and my main two retro Consoles, so I can appreciate them both. Still, I could let go of the N64 and be content with just the Saturn, but not the other way around, so I think that speaks volumes (at least in my case).
