I live right outside of Philadelphia and am a big Philly sports fan, although mainly hockey and baseball. I am not happy, however to hear about Vick being signed. I am surprised that there are so many fans out there who are just like "oh well." Maybe it is because I have worked with animals my entire life, most recently as a veterinary technician, but I just can't imagine anyone who has and loves a dog, who considers themselves a dog person, looking in their pet's eyes and saying "I am okay with this guy getting his job back." Sometimes I feel that people forget athletes are entertainers and are supported by the fans. They are not super humans who should be allowed to abide by their own set of laws. If anyone else is wondering, please be assured that MUCH of Philly is outraged over this decision. Especially since we just got done with a huge event with the Phillies and their dogs (including pit bulls), which culminated in a calendar being released with pictures of them all.
Keep it clean!

You can get away with a lot when you are a celeb as we have seen... I had assumed acts of torture and killing would still be considered career ending moves.Dylan wrote:Michael Vick still has a career? What a joke.

I don't think Vick really got away with his crimes. He missed 2 and 1/3 seasons, spent 18 months in jail and lost millions of dollars. The guy disgusts me, but he has paid a price and I don't think there'd be a lot of support to ban him for life at this point.vash23n wrote:You can get away with a lot when you are a celeb as we have seen... That said, I can certainly understand your being upset if you are at all an Eagles fan. I'm sure glad he didn't get signed by my favorite team, the 49ers (even though they could use a halfway decent QB), and I wouldn't have remained a fan of theirs if they had picked him up.
Who knows how this will play out? Vick wasn't exactly a premier QB in his prime and I can't imagine he'll be any better after this much downtime. Plus, in Atlanta he was pretty sensitive to criticism. Remember when he flipped off the hometown fans after they booed him? I'm sure he'll be in for a lot of boos when he comes back (especially on the road) and it might be fun to see how he reacts. I won't be rooting for him.

Being frank, I find hypocrital to say "killing anmals is bad" and eat meat. Pigs are as intelligent as dogs and you don't need to eat meat at all, vegetarians aren't dying because of the lack of ribs.
I don't think animals are moral beings and thus have the same value as Gordon Freeman's chracter.
Now, bash me to death.

I'm a dog lover and my gf is a member of PETA. She thinks he's the devil. I, on the other hand, think he has done his time and has been rehabilitated. What more do you want of him? Rot in prison for the rest of his life? This is the NFL for God's sake. Haven to thugs and murderers.
Animal rights activists are fanatics and extremists. They'll forgive murderers, but don't you dare harm a cat/bird/dog/etc. Should really watch the nature channel more and see just how raw and savage nature really is.

So glad other people expressed my sentiments so well. I was going to post exactly the same thing and then I reconsidered because I figured that I would get flamed. At least there are some sensible people left.
Not that I really want to take a stand or anything I'm just amused by all of the "causes" these days. I guess I grew up with real problems so I didn't have time to worry about that kind of stuff.

I am not an extremist when it comes to animals and I do eat meat. Animals eat meat, but animals, even though hunting can be a few seconds of some harsh treatment to prey, do not put lesser creatures in a ring and force them to fight to the death. They do not get them to become perfect killers by electrocuting them or holding their heads under water or hanging them up by their legs. I know conditions are not always ideal in plants that work slaughter animals and make meat, but those places are constantly being discovered and a lot is being done to clean them up.
Regardless, I do not feel that a person who commits this type of crime against an animal (I am sure many of you have seen the pictures of the dogs) or human should be allowed to go back into a position where he gets paid a million or more dollars to be a role model. Let him go back and try to support himself by working at McDonalds or Applebees.
