Got some birthday money and bought a PSP... next step?

Just want to let you know, if the memory stick doesn't have Magic Gate some PSX games will not work.

I bought a M2 to Pro Duo adaptor and any PSX game I put on it refused to work. The exact same games (literally copied from the M2 to my other Pro Duo) worked perfectly. Other homebrew and .CSOs worked fine on the M2 though.

It's a consideration if you are going to playing PSX games on it with POPS.

Modding is getting easier, you can do it yourself with the latest ChickHEN no need for pandora battery anymore but if you are not into that then get someone to do it for you but don't pay more than $20 maybe.

That's a great price for a psp! Too bad they don't have more I would ask you to get me one.

Have you done the chickHEN mod? It looks easy enough, the only thing that scares me is the fact that they said if you have the wrong motherboard you could brick the machine.
I looked at the guide for finding out what motherboard i have, and it doesn't help. I hope i don't have to open the thing up.

Are there psp slim models that can't be modded, even with pandora?

Yes, pandora doesn't work for the later 2000 slim models with the newer boards and it doesn't work on 3000 and if you try to install a permanent custom firmware in those models you get a brick. What you could do is use Chickhen which works on any model and then run Custom Firmware Enabler which is what works on the 3000 model and the non hackable 2000. It would be the safer way I think and the only downside is if you turn off the psp you need to run Chickhen again so just leave it on standby.

Yes, its difficult to find out which motherboard you have. First one I did was kinda nervous because I wasn't sure if it was custom firmware friendly. And if someone upgraded the firmware to one of the latest official sony updates then it can throw you off. Here's the guide I used:

it worked perfect, i cant believe it was that easy!

Now all i need is my card to come in (32 meg came with it).

What games did you have trouble with? I haven't had any trouble with the ones I played.
