A good game that is missing from that list..... Mutant League Hockey

With EA hockey, although nhl 2002 is a great game.... I have to go with 04. Just because of dynasty. It had it's flaws but it really was a breath of fresh air after 03.

Haven't put it up on youtube, not sure if I will. I didn't edit it to be cut up in 10 minutes segments, and don't want to go through the trouble of doing another edit. I might make my next retrospective more youtube friendly.

Yup, I am missing Mutant League Hockey on my good game list. It's not as smooth as MLFootball, but fun nonetheless. During the review, it was the only hockey game I had to use a *gasp* rom.

I have 2004 for the Gamecube, perhaps I bought it for the wrong console, because I'm not a big fan. Could just be the controls though.

I grew up playing hockey and going to UIC college and Blackhawk hockey games. I coached little league hockey, and played college hockey (@ ECU, so it isn't a big deal). To me, NHL 2002 feels the most like actually playing hockey, and that's why I like it so much.

I own a few sports games here and there. They're pretty good for a couple hours of mindless entertainment.

I think my favorite might be the Sega Sports games on Dreamcast, but EA's NCAA Football 07 is great too.

Well thanks for the recommendations guys. I picked up a few based on what you said and I now have a nice little stable of sports games that hardly cost me a thing. Here's what I have in my sports collection now.

ESPN NFL 2K5: $1
Fight Night: Round 2: $3.33
MLB 06 The Show: $3.33
NBA 2K3: $2
NBA Street: $3.33
NHL 2002: $1
Salt Lake 2002: $3 (I know this game is bad, but it's my home town and I was at that Olympics)
World Soccer: Winning Eleven 7: $2.50

Total cost for this collection = $19.50!

Woohoo! I'm not much of a sports guy, but I do love a good bargain. I'm trusting you guys and metacritic that these are good games (most have a metascore in the high 80s or low 90s). So far, I like Fight Night and NBA Street, but I haven't had a chance to play the others yet.

I've been meaning to do something like that.
Maybe a montage of all the EA games each one following the same player.
I think Chelios is one of the few players I could do that with, With JR retiring

I would definitely suggest putting a retrospective together if you and some friends have the time.
I did mine over several weekends, I found it much more interesting by getting peoples reactions to the games one by one. If I had more than one friend over, it just got obnoxious as far as getting decent voice feeds. I plan on doing another one soon, just not sure what to tackle. Doing hockey was easy for me, as I have a hockey game for almost every system I own, and almost at least one game for each year.

Regarding NHL 2002 - I HATED that one. I remember buying it brand new and became convinced shortly thereafter that the CPU actually decides when it will allow a goal or not, meaning that your skill really makes no difference. Then a couple weeks ago, I decided to buy this same game (NHL 2002) on the Xbox for a couple bucks.. and guess what? Same crap. The goalies frequently make unrealistic saves and sometimes you'll actually see the game suddenly skip a few frames of animation or bog down RIGHT BEFORE A GOAL! As if I needed any more convincing that the computer decides the outcome of the games.

No way, dude. NHL 2005 is the real deal. I think that's the one that they actually got right on the PS2, gameplay-wise anyway. Play it using "Action Cam," it's awesome!

The best hockey game on the PS2 is easily NHL Hitz 2002 though. ESPECIALLY if you like arcade-type sports games like NBA Jam. Trust me, the game is a lot of fun with VERY impressive graphics.

As for basketball, my favorite is NBA Hoopz. Another NBA Jam-style b-ball game. I also liked NBA Live 2001 and 06 for more simulated action. And NBA 2K8 wasn't bad either

For football, I'll go with Madden 2004. Again, I feel it's the one that EA got right on the PS2.

Heh. That's awesome. Thanks Luke, but I'm sure it will be worth at least the dollar I spent. If nothing else, I got a DVD case with it.

Couldn't tell ya why, but there are actually sports games out there that resale for some serious cash. Just don't plan on it.
