House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return controls

Post by equalsign »

I looked around, but was having trouble finding the specific controls for this game online. What button is used to fire? I know you can just point the Wii remote off screen to reload, but was wondering if it's possible to map it to a button. What I'm hoping to hear is that "A" is used to fire and "B" can be mapped to reload. That would make it compatible with this new Buckshot controller I tried out at my local Play N Trade the other day (link with video). The controller felt great and had a good weight to it. I'm hoping this beast could finally allow me a near authentic home version of House of the Dead III. The white one looks alright, but I personally really dig the red model 8) .

Oh Hell son. If you get that to work, I may have to spend more time with the Wii...

As long as you're pointing off screen it doesn't matter if you press a button, I realise you think you'll just not move the gun to reload, but it's a real hard habit to break.

that is pretty sweet! I agree going off screen is a hard habit to break. They really need to release HOTD4 I can't find it in any local arcades and I don't want to travel to reno nevada every weekend to play :) (last and closest place I've found it)

Wow - that's a sweet gun. Makes my Perfect Shot look quite sad.

The Hand Cannon they put out with HOTD: Overkill is nice. I had a nyko perfect shot but it still felt like I was clicking icons and not actually shooting anything you know.

On a related note you really should check out House Of The Dead: Overkill. As I understand it it did awfully at retail in the states so you should be able to get it cheap.

Actually, it was on Amazon's Will best-sellers list for a while -- pretty impressive for a non-Nintendo title :)
But Amazon customers aren't necessarily the same people that buy Wii games elsewhere.

I don't understand people who play HOTD or any of the lightgun games on wii with the bloody cursor on. Isn't that completely defying the point of these games?

I've yet to get a gun casing for Wii lightgun games so I haven't played any more than 5 minutes on principle. Moving a cursor over your targets is just naff and utterly pointless, might as well play it on a PC with a mouse.

Haha! This beast is awesome, eh? My question still stands though- can you remap reload to the B Button in House of the Dead III? I ask because the pump part of the shotgun triggers that button. In HotD III Arcade I remember you pumped your shotgun to reload (instead of shooting offscreen) and I'm looking to duplicate the feel. I know it works with Overkill (as evidenced with the video), but I am dying to know about the third game.

PS: They do need to bring HotD 4 to the Wii (waggle to reload  ), along with the first one. Hopefully a fresh port, rather than the somewhat iffy Saturn one. Knowing the Saturn, that probably wouldn't even be possible anyways. Tricky little bugger, that one  .

I'm a hater and a purist as well. I already have HotD 2 for the Dreamcast (PAL) with two Japanese/European official Sega light guns and am working on getting the first game now that I FINALLY got a working Saturn (it's taken YEARS of pain and trouble). I've been holding off on the Xbox version of HotD III because of the lack of a pump shotgun style light gun for the console. Holding a puny light gun to the screen just cannot duplicate the feel that game had in the arcades.

So while the Wii version might not be a true light gun game, I think something like this is the closest thing to the arcade feel that I may ever find. It's not perfect, but I'm pretty sure you can turn the cursor off to get even just a bit closer to the real thing.
