Genesis, Saturn & Ps1 in VGA?

Post by gennss »

Was thinking of getting XCM 1080p Mega-Cool VGA Box, so I could play my older consoles on my vga monitor like I do with my 360 and DC. Thing is I'm moving into my own place for the first time soon, and my usual choice (20" flat tube tv with component and s-video) is no longer an option due to space. (I'm moving into a glorified closet, i mean studio).

Has anyone had an experiences connecting these consoles to a vga monitor? What converter is recommended? My monitor is 28" LCD Hanns-G. Not exactly best one out there, but i like it fine.

Ideas? Opinions? Experiences?

They're all pretty much trash apart from the XRGB-2 or XRGB-3. That get's a lot of favourable reviews and I know a few members have got either iteration of the device. I don't know about the one you mentioned however.

VGA converters can't work miracles, the old adage of shit in - shit out applies. Use the best connection you can and you will get better results. The better the upscaler the more lag is introduced. Generally the older the console the worse the results (since the output resolution is much lower).

IF you can, get/do RGB mods on your consoles, this is something I don't have any experience in, since us lucky Europeans got RGB compatible systems from the get go (well from the Super NES onwards). RGB is simply the best output you can achieve from old consoles.

option 2 is keep my 20" and sell the monitor. Since the 20" supports component and s-video, i can probably enjoy my 360 on it as well.

But then i'm downgrading completely rather than downgrading my older consoles.

Since i'm moving I don't really have the funds to make a big change. And space concerns dictate, i can keep 1.

Option 3 is just sell everything, keep dreamcast, and be depressed. lol
