Is there/Will there be a Doom 4
Sure there was Doom 3: Resurrection (Doom 3.5 as I call it, its got the same engine as Doom 3, but plays more like the older action oriented Doom games) but I want a full blown Doom 4. I think it would be cool to have a remake of Doom 1 and Doom 2. Maybe flush out the story a little. Sure there was the scrolling text, but it never really gave a feel of an integrated story. Also, who doesn't want to kill John Romero at the end in true 3D

Doom 3 was supposed to be a remake of Doom 1. I've heard that there will be a Doom 4 that will be coming in the next few years that as Carmack ( karmak, spelling whatever) has said will be designed to push 3d hardware to it's limits, because we've not heard that before. But after 3 I'm not all that excited.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

I'm sure there will be. I highly doubt it will be anything like the old games though. Doom 3 only got good when you finally reached hell, and even then, it just doesn't replicate the old games at all. It has none of the fast paced action, mood, music, or disturbing imagery. Somehow those 20 pixel tall animated sprites of meat-hooked wiggling torsos disturbed me more than any visual imagery Doom 3 could provide.
I've always felt like Prey made up for a lot of D3's faults. That's a hell of a game right there. Quake 4 SP was also worth a completion.

I always thought doom was more of a tech demo for its time than anything else. I mean the gameplay was basically shoot shit and wander aimlessly around grungy mazes until you find the exit. Outside of having impressive graphics for its time it didn't really have the most innovative gameplay. So what would a doom 4 accomplish? Even something like doom 3 is really only doom in name. I'd rather see an HD version of the original doom, complete with cheesy one directional sprites.

Jrecee, are you on crack? Doom was freaking AWESOME in its time. Everyone I know was losing sleep because they were playing so much Doom. You can't classify a game as a tech demo just because it has the most impressive graphics of its era. Doom was also a hell of a lot of fun to play and one of the scariest games of the time. Yeah, it was built off what Wolfenstein pioneered, but Doom was one hell of a game.
Anyway, I haven't heard anything about a Doom 4, but ID software will soon be releasing a new game called Rage that looks pretty damn fun, though it looks more like Fallout 4 than Doom 4:

I agree, although, if you have played Resurrection, it plays way better than the original Doom 3. Although it is slower than the original games, its better than the first part. I always felt Doom 3 cheated me, the main menu music implies awesome, all you get is a cheap jump out and scare thrill game. Don't get me wrong I loved it, but it just wasn't as Doom as I wanted it to be. I agree with you on Prey though, it was an underrated game too. Kind of sad.Mozgus wrote:I'm sure there will be. I've always felt Quake 4 was the best Quake game. Thats just me.
I really hope the new Wolfenstein game kicks as much ass as the first 3 entries.

Serious Sam and Painkiller would like to explain that you don't really need more than shooting shit and wandering aimlessly.Jrecee wrote:I mean the gameplay was basically shoot shit and wander aimlessly around grungy mazes until you find the exit.

If you're looking for a true successor to Doom then Serious Sam or Painkiller would be it. Those games are well worth a look. I loved both those games from start to finish.

I'd just be happy with more levels for the original Doom. Little chance of that happening though.
Serious Sam was awesome, Painkiller I just couldn't get into.
