Nightshade

Post by RCBH928 »

I know better than thinking you guys never heard of this game for the NES
I came by it browsing youtube:

This guys speaks highly of it, and if what he says is true, I really think it does what 360ps3wiidon't . I mean a game where you can fight, explore, rpg and more for the nes?
Seems impossibly creative for that time, I am not sure if Fable is the same or not though.

I want to hear what you think about it

Wow... Nightshade was one of my favorite NES games. I didn't watch the YouTube video yet but want to post just because it's bringing back so many great memories.

It's primarily a point-and-click adventure, where you explore the game world and solve puzzles by finding items and then using them in the appropriate sections. Sometimes the reward for solving a puzzle with be tangible, giving you items that are needed to progress in the game, and sometimes it just raises your superhero status (which is also required if you want to interact with some citizens of the town). Writing is humorous, although not everyone will enjoy the super-cheesy dialog and superhero stereotypes.

The catch is that you have surprisingly fun and fast-paced combat sections whenever you touch one of the enemies that is walking around. Crouch, punch, kick, and jump... the controls here are a bit rough, but give plenty of options and each enemy and boss will require a slightly different approach to defeat. Combat provides a nice change of pace and really helps to break the game up - but be warned that you will have to practice to master the fighting controls, or you stand no chance of beating this game.

First picked as a random rental, I had no idea what a treat I was in for! The surprise soon faded as I dedicated my weekend to exploring the city and foiling Sutekh's (sp?) evil plans... but unfortunately I wasn't able to beat the game. I would still love to revisit Nightshade, and would recommend it to anyone who can find a copy.

Edit: Just watched the video. He did a good job of reviewing the game and mentioning both strong and weak points. But I still think that anyone who loves NES games should give it a shot anyway. Oh, and Nightshade doesn't just uppercut -- he knows how to kick too if you play with the controls!
