Programming difficulty
Re: Programming difficulty
Hey I'm a software engineer and I can develop some custom software for you. If you want something created let me know what you want and I'll give you a quote. I work full time as well as doing the freelance stuff so I can keep my quotes lean.
Re: Programming difficulty
Well thanx for your participation
I don't want anything now, but maybe in the future, as I am thinking of launching a business. I will sure give a look back at you if I want anything.
But if you are a software engineer why don't you share with us a bit about the difficulty of programming . How hard is it, how long will it take. Say for full time employees .
I gave an example about 5 guys trying to build a software like Mellel:http://www.redlers.com/ from scratch.
There is a ton of great free software out there and wondering about the difficulty of creating apps.

Re: Programming difficulty
One cannot give a blanket statement on the difficulty of programming. You need to first come up with the requirements for an application. Then an engineer can come up with a specification for the app before it's written.
An application could take anywhere from a few hours to many man-years. Development can be made easier if good robust libraries/framework exist that an application can take advantage of. That covers the coding part but not testing which is also important for an app.

Re: Programming difficulty
It really does depend on your own aptitude, personally I love coding and it comes quite naturally to me, although I know a lot of other people struggle to get to grips with it. I think as a rough rule of thumb if you got a handle algebra easily you will more than likely have the kind of mind thats suited to coding.
If you want to have a stab at it then I recommend reading the following free ebook: Steve Hellers great free book
Now, like other people have said developing somthing to a professional level demands more that a good understanding of how write a program. Good design model practises, HCI issues and development methodologies are essential knowledge for professional software development and the time is spent is stretched even futher when you include the white box and black box tests as well as frequent user trials and so on.
But I am a great beleiver in the simplest thing that works policy and if you are devleping something for you own business that will only be used by yourself then just throw the software together as fast as you can, only doing the bare minimum.
Hopefully if your business idea takes off, you can add to it later on or pay someone to do it for you when you know your idea has legs.
