typically it depends on your preference in music. many of the usa console releases have typically American music (mostly hiphop) which can be a curse or a blessing based on your preference. your best bet is stepmania which is a FREE pc DDR simulation. you can download made music and dance files (called simfiles or stepfiles) from certain sites these are made by other people (good example BEMANISTYLE.COM) so all you need is a dance matt and a ps2 to pc hook up (or get a pc matt or whatever your preference is). this way its a lot cheaper. it shouldn't be hard to figure out how to use because there is guides on Stepmania.com on how to use it and even links to other songs and song sites. well its an idea look into it and see for yourself.

My favorite game is DDR Extreme 2, but almost all the games are great except for Supernova 2 because it has a lot of pop music like Britney Spears,Ashley Tisdale,Gwen Stefani, etc, I really dislike that kind of music. The only one I don't own is DDR X, but it looks good. I don't play these games anymore, I don't have space for my metal dance pad in my room. I do love playing them in the arcade when I go to the arcade, I'm not that good I only play on standard mode. All the games are under $10 each if you buy them from Amazon, probably a little bit more with shipping.

DDR Max. It has decent music 80% of the time, and has a good difficulty selection.
Systems: SNES, PS1, GBA SP, Gamecube, DS Lite, Wii, PS3 (Fully Backwards Compatible), Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, a Sega CD, and a Sega Saturn.
