hdloader.org - scam?

Post by dedalusdedalus »

i didn't do my due diligence before buying from hdloader.org, but i'm starting to get the feeling that i've been scammed and should raise a paypal dispute. does anyone have any prior experience dealing with this site?

the site's run by a corpulent chap named syd bolton who has a huge video game collection. i wonder if he's financing all of that by running a fraudulent site?

also i doubt they would even get that far with scaming people anyways.

but if not it seems at least you might be able to get your money back just wait and make sure your not being scamed.

It's my understanding that the scam is the site charging for free software. You can go to skapps.com and get hdloader and related software. The last official version was 0.8b and there are various patches out there that will give you the functionality present in the version 3.8C from hdloader.org.

Mozgus would be the best to comment. See this thread http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=10505 for more info on hdloader.

The answer is that HDLoader was originally a retail product, but it was discontinued for obvious reasons. Since then it's been updated many times by fans. The last version of the retail disc is far inferior and not worth your time at all. Compatibility and features are much better with the final version 0.8b + whatever minor enhancements. There is no true 0.8c. If you find one, that just means the user applied whatever fixes he could find post-0.8b, and you wont know which ones for sure.

Also, whenever you download a "clean" or "original" version of HDLoader so you can patch it up to date yourself, thats the original retail version right there.

The sad fact is that the source code was never released, so there is no way for people to update this product in a true sense. All the updates we've made are simple built-in workarounds and such. There will always be core issues that we can never fix.

It was never "free", it was released as a retail product, which is what you are buying. If you buy this, however, you will b able to run it on a un modded ps2, which you would be unable to do with a downloaded version (though it isn't terribly difficult to install freemcboot now anyways)

ToxicOS+DMS4 are the best combination for loading backups on PS2. I believe even troublesome title backups like Sonic Unleashed are no match for that formiddable combo. ToxicOS was written by HDLoader's author but requires that specific modchip.

Is it possible to use HDLoader to force 480p output? Been a while since I last used it.

I don't think so, but I've had no problems with games that support progressive scan.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.

yeah, what you should be paying for, if anything, is a stamped disc rather than a burn, so that an unmodded ps2 will be able to play the disc, and you'd only need a compatible harddrive and a ps2 hd adapter.

Yea. No scam here.

The discs are professionally printed and can be played in retail ps2s.
