Import-Friendly Wonderswan Games?

Post by lisalover1 »

I'm thinking about getting a Wonderswan Color/Swancrystal, but am concerned about the library consisting entirely of Japanese games. So, what are some good import-friendly games for the system?

I only own 2 Wonder Swan games and have no Wonder Swan to play them so I can't answer your question but I have one for you instead.

Can you read katakana? That's the set of characters mainly used for foreign words such as English. If you want to be able to understand all the English words in Japanese games, I suggest spending the 2 weeks or so needed to learn katakana.

Just being able to read katakana would be a huge help for Japanese games. It might be enough to help you manage most of the non-RPGs.

Inazuma is right. Being able to read katakana and hiragana* would help you greatly if you were looking into buying japanese games for any system. I used to study Japanese, but never really got to far with it(kanji is difficult). But I did master hiragana and katakana in a fairly small time (a couple of weeks...maybe 2 ). After that, i bought a few imports, and needless to say it was pretty easy to understand them. (they weren't rpg's which are heavy on japanese kanji, more or less fighters and some adventure games). So definitely try to learn katakana and hiragana, fairly easy to learn (i think you need to learn roughly like 90 symbols or so).

I can read Hiragana. I tried emulating the Final Fantasy Wonderswan remake, and I was able to at understand a fair bit of it.

Wow, so you even understand Japanese. Just learn how to read katakana as well and you should be pretty much set.

Beatmania is very import friendly. I'm thinking back and I believe a good portion of the text is in English. Don't hold me to that though. I had no problem playing it, we'll say that.

I didn't have much trouble with Tekken Card Battle. It was pretty straight forward.

Tare no Panda / Gunpey, Magic Drop are just puzzle games. So pretty easy there.

I tried to play Cho Aniki Tamafuda to no avail.

I wrote this giant edit and my browser crashed so... I'm gonna lazy up and just paste the titles without my commentary. These are titles that should be import friendly:

Buffers Evolution
Crazy Climber
Fire ProWrestling for WonderSwan
Ganso Jaja Marukun
Lode Runner for WonderSwan
Makai-Mura for WonderSwan
Pocket Fighter
Rainbow Islands: Putty's Party
RockMan & Forte
Space Invaders
Kaze no Klonoa: Moonlight Museum
Puyo Puyo 2
Magical Drop
Tetris

These should be playable with a FAQ
Engacho!

Now when you get into Wonderswan Color....

Blue Wing Blitz with a FAQ
Guilty Gear Petite 1&2
Dicing Knight
Crash Gear Turbo with FAQ
Golden Axe
Judgement Silver Sword (be prepared to cash up)
Mr. Driller
XI [sai]

I know nothing about Swan Crystal games. Sorry.

That's too bad NotBlaine, I would've liked to read the commentary. Your list is very thorough.
I forgot all about Engacho! That's the only game I know of where you literally get shit on for losing. Your opponents are smelly bodily functions who attack when you lose. Really.

best quality and must have import title would be One Piece.
I don't know the characters, but it's like super smash brothers mini.

there are some translations out there if you can get a flash cart. which is also expensive to find.
