What a list. Truly some stinkers on there. I can' believe I don't recall anything about a Tandy device in 92. We had a Tandy computer around 89 or 90 and it was pretty bunk. I love playing some Carmen San Diego on it though ....

I also had a 3DO around 94 and it was pretty damn good. I was totally impressed and had a blast -- it was just too expensive, lacked any real exclusive because no first-party developer was backing it, and it ran into the PS1. Once the PS launched, I distinctly remember the games just evaporating not long after.

They were just talking about this on the latest Retronauts podcast. I'd never heard of it before but it sounds really wild.
EDIT: I was thinking of something else -- they were talking about some Atari handheld with holographic tech on the podcast.

The 5200 had it's problem, but it's not a bad console. The controller is crap, it's huge as hell, and it has that crazy AC/RF adaptor. However, inside it was really an Atari 8-bit computer, and that brought some great games, such as Star Raiders. It also has the best trackball ever released for a home console, and so the best home versions of Centipede and Missile Command. Good versions of Joust, Defender, Qix, etc.

Wow, and I thought the 3DO and CD-I were stinkers, compared to some of the others on the list they're monumental successes.

The Halcyon never made it into full production and Thayer's Quest is not a bad game, specially for the era.

And why the FMOV-based gameplay hate? Dragon's Lair is fun, not every laserdisc game sucks.

He looks completely bad-ass.

On a related note, anyone remember the Pokémon Mini? That was a piece of shit, and I still have some magazines from the time it came out hyping it up to be good.

Oh man - I had an R-Zone. I think I had Mortal Kombat on it or something like that. I even remember bringing it to elementary school. I thought that shit was so cool back then...
