Help my friend! What game is this?

Hi a friend of mine has been looking for a NES game for ages and he still doesn't know what the name is so he can't play it. Here are some clues he remembers:

1) It's similar to Snow Bros but it is NOT Snow Bros. Instead of trapping them in balls you smash them at your right and at your left.

2) When the timer run out all the enemies transformed into spiders which moved very fast. Once the timer run out again you automatically passed the level.

3) There's a Whale Boss, an Elephant with a Top Hat and the path to the fourth boss was a castle.

Bubble Bobble. Sounds a lot like Bubble Bobble.

I think it is Bubble Bobble, but I also think its Ice Climbers

Its not Bubble Bobble, since there is only one boss and ghost whales attack you (Baron von Bubbla) not spiders. Ice Climber does not have bosses, or my memory is fading.

It sounds an awful lot like Fairyland Story but thats not an NES title.

Anything else you can give us to figure this out?

I take that back, I think it is Don Doko Don:

PC engine gameplay, but it was a NES and Arcade game. Available on the Taito Legends 2 disc for the PS2.

Is it Rodland? You smash enemies side to side, there is a whale boss, you create stairs to go up platforms. There is a timer that makes enemies move faster when it expires, I don't remember them turning into spiders though.

Well whatever it is I have discovered two awesome looking games because of this thread. Thanks. Now to find copies of Rodland and Don Doko Don

Yes, it is! My friend got wrong a couple of things (The elephant doesn't have a top hat for example) but you guessed it!

A PAL only, 1992 game , that's hard to guess. Thank you =D
