Works for me you gotta take enough of it.
I doubt that. I've been called a vampire by my friends before over my constant state of poor health, pale skin, and bloodshot eyes during the school year. (This was before Twilight came out, so I didn't consider it an insult.) My advice to the insomniacs out there- eat a big dinner and shower right before bed. That's the only thing that helps me.
Get some sun light then maybe.

part of the reason I was diagnosed as bipolar is my ability to go for days at a time without sleep during this time I have loads of energy and become quite annoying and even dangerous to myself and sometimes others. However then you have the lows which leave me doing just about nothing (just this week I spent all but 6 hours in bed completely out of it I'm to say the least rather depressed as of late finances, school starting up, can't find work. family life is complete hell.

It seems there are quite a few people on these forums with sleep problems... I have actually had a weird schedule working contract work lately where I work some days, don't work others, etc etc. I usually don't know if I am working the next day until the morning. However, once I get tired I am always able to fall asleep within 5 minutes... I sleep like a rock  There are times when I stay up late multiple nights and don't get much sleep but I usually feel fine after sleeping in on the weekend or taking some naps.

I had the same problem when I was 19-24, and at that time I was also a smoker. Here are a few suggestions:

Don't eat after 6pm. Make it a rule with no exceptions.

Get into bed at least one hour before you actually want to go to bed.
(one of my problems is that i would always get sleepy somewhere else, but as soon as I went to bed *Bam* I was wide awake again)

Unplug all land line phones, and shut off your cell phone. If you have a smart phone like I do, the blinking lights and vibrating will keep you up.

Don't talk to family or anyone you are in a relationship with for at least an hour before you go to sleep.

Plus, don't think/talk about anything that may bother you an hour before you want to go to sleep, especially work/school/finances.

Turn off the TV!

Do as many push-ups as possible before you go to bed. This helps if you easily get restless.

Read a book after you get into bed. The Hobbit always knock me out.

This might sound silly, but replay a favorite movie os tv show in your mind with your eyes closed. It'll relax you more than you would think.

Listen to a book on tape if reading isn't your forte, on low volume, barely a whisper.

Hope this helps man, but mainly, it's about establishing a sleeping pattern. You can always set your alarm for 4am, and you would be amazed on how quickly you'll feel tired.
I definitely agree with watching an old favorite movie or show. If it's anything new you get too interested. The older stuff (futurama episodes for me) you know by heart so you figure you can close your eyes and still see what is happening. Before you know it you're asleep.

My wife has the same problem as RB in that she is always exhausted. The Dr. wanted to check her for anemia - just something to keep in mind. She def gets enough sleep... it's not like she's just tired because she stays up late all the time. In bed at 9 because she's so exhausted. Which stinks because sleeping too much can make you exhausted too, as weird as it sounds. Like I stay up until 5 am watching stupid movies and so when I have to get up at 8 or 9 am I am exhausted.

Do I really have to come out and say this...? -_-;

Unlike some stupid mother fuckers *cough* BudSmoka *cough*

I am under a experimental treatment for a disease called dextrocardia, where my heart is on the right instead of the left, and if effects many things, as my sleep patterns.

Yes, I get medicinal Marijuana, but I'm not a fucking douchebag, it really does help for all of my aches and pains, also, it is technically legal for me at the least.

You just can't trust prescription drugs anymore, scary thing really.
