American DS lite

Post by Ivo »

Hi guys

I have a question about the battery charger of the DS lite (any of you that have one could check this for me please): does the charger work with 220 V or just your native 110V? I ask because laptop battery chargers usually work with both voltages.
You can check this by looking in the sticker in the charger with electronic information, there should be a line with "Input: 100 to 240 V" or so (if you have a laptop you can cross check).

Also, the GBA slot on the DS lite isn't regional locked, right? Just wondering, as the PS3 backwards compatibility of PS1 and PS2 games is regionally locked even when the PS3 games aren't.

the manual for the ds lite says "When recharging the battery, use ONLY the included AC Adapter, Model No. USG-002 JPN/USA." the physical adapter itself says "Input: AC120v 60Hz 4W, Output: DC5.2v 450mA". in japanese it also says "this device can be used with USG-001" and mentions input at AC100v 50/60Hz 8VA with the same output rating as the u.s. portion
in short, i think it doesn't work with 220v :(

It clearly doesn't as the input is clearly specified. Thanks for the info!

If and when I get one cheaper in the US, I would need to use a proper voltage converter if I wanted to use it in 220V countries, as opposed to "shape" adapters which is the usual one people use for laptops (which just basically would have a US "female" for the DS charger to go in, and an appropriate "male" to go into whatever socket).
