Will the Xbox 360 be ridiculously rare in the future?
Will the Xbox 360 be ridiculously rare in the future?
It's no secret that 360s die like there's no tomorrow. With that being said, when the 360 becomes a retro console, what will be the consequence for retro gamers? With the average lifespan of a 360 being about the same as a sneeze, what hope is there? I think it will be following the footsteps of working N64 controllers. Starting off common, then becoming slightly annoying to find, then being exceedingly rare, and finally, just disappearing from existence. How many 360s will be left years from now?

I dunno I suppose it will become like nes's you'll have to either fix one up yourself or bring it to someone who know's how to fix them. A great question to ponder though.

Ever heard of the Jaguar CD? I think that we're going to have a similar case here.

This is a great question to think about considering the Xbox 360 failure rate is rather high...

I think that the earlier versions will become rare, but I do think that Microsoft will eventually come out with a very reliable X-BOX 360, so it won't be too hard to get one later on.
I really don't have too much interest in one right now, anyway (Except for the Neo-Geo stuff on XBLA).
But if Microsoft doesn't come out with a new model, it might be smart to pick a new one up when the time is right (When they get really cheap) so you might sell it 20 years from now.

yep reminds me alot of the jag cd wonder if it will fetch similar prices when it becomes rare? Could be awhile though as unlike the jag cd it has been produced in large numbers for a decent time period. Probably will be a good repair business around to take care of them to. At least it has a better library than the jag cd haha
Re: Will the Xbox 360 be ridiculously rare in the future?
i don't think Microsoft is going to do that. They only really release one console. No slims or colors or anything like that. They might change up the board a little bit. Minor tweaks, but i think what we got now is probably going to be it.Gooseberrysoda wrote:I think that the earlier versions will become rare, but I do think that Microsoft will eventually come out with a very reliable X-BOX 360, so it won't be too hard to get one later on.
The best we can hope for as far as the 360 future playablity goes is that when microsoft releases a new console that is has a decent backwards compatible library and is more reliable.
If microsoft doesn't go that way, i can see sealed xbox 360s going for a decent amount online in 10 years to the gaming enthusiast. I was thinking of buying a new one once they are on their way out like the gamecube is right now.
Re: Will the Xbox 360 be ridiculously rare in the future?
I doubt it, even with the failures they're plentiful enough so that the supply should remain strong long after Microsoft have stopped supporting it.
My question is, what happens to the downloadable content? If Microsoft eventually remove games and other content from their service, will 360's with rare XBLA games stored on the HDD became super valuable?

now THAT's an interesting question. i always assumed that downloadable content had a resale value of exactly zero.My question is, what happens to the downloadable content? This is what I think. They're already much more reliable than they used be, and I'd expect when Natal comes out next year they might even have a fully revised form factor that fixes these issues once and for all.Gooseberrysoda wrote:I think that the earlier versions will become rare, but I do think that Microsoft will eventually come out with a very reliable X-BOX 360, so it won't be too hard to get one later on.

And, I expect the next Xbox will have full BC. The took out xbox 1 support because they switched chip manufacturers. I don't see that happening again. The 360 has made much more of an impact than the OG xbox did.
