RIP John Hughes

Post by Luke »

I know this is a game forum, but this news really, really mad me sad.
John Hughes defined 80's comedies. I still run into people who say they don't like John Hughes' movies, then I bring up Christmas Vacation and Home Alone, and they change their story.
I wish I could just get one more movie from him.

Bueller? Bueller? I think I own Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller. Might have to organize a marathon...
Comics, RPG's, miniatures, and now retrogaming? I guess its time to learn to go without eating...

I just saw 'The Collector' this weekend and was reminded of one of Hughes' all time greatest films; Home Alone. If you haven't seen 'The Collector' (I don't blame you if you haven't) and plan to, go into the theater and think Kevin McCallister. This will get you through the movie.

This 'Collector' guy is basically Kevin if he lost his shit when he was a teenager. All he does is set up these Rube Goldbergian traps. It is as if these filmmakers went into their pitch meeting and said the following, "Imagine Saw meets Home Alone".

Anyways I will always love Uncle Buck, I remember watching this, along with Sixteen Candles, on HBO many times when I was younger. It is rare that a film can capture a moment in popular culture like his did.

He made some great movies, and will be sorely missed. How come everytime someone famous dies, everyone feels the need to watch or listen what made them popular? Kinda reminds me of the whole MJ thread a while back. Maybe I'm just cold or missing something but it always confuses me why people suddenly gain interest in someone when they die.

All the ladies they love me, from the bleachers they screamin
All the ballers is bouncin they like the way I be leanin
All the rappers be hatin, off the track that I'm makin
But all the hustlers they love it just to see one of us make it
