Well, for anyone that cares here is the progress on the new game room. Slowly getting there, these things move alot slower with kids. Got everything framed in, wired and insulation in. Hooked up all the lights in the main area and painted the cieling. Drywall next.

Here is from the stairway looking towards where the bar is going to be. You can see a rough layout of the bar out on the floor.

Here is from behind the bar looking at at where the first pic was taken. In the distance is the entrance to my future office and you can see on the right side of the pic where a closest is going to be under the stairs. Those boxes there currently are holding all my games and bar area stuff. They want out!

back at the bar from the living area.

Its almost like a big circle around the stairs that are in the middle of the room and then on the opposite end of the bar area I have a storage area and my office. Here are the general plans for the main area minus the office and storage with the stairs in the middle.

King I am so jealous of your knowledge of electrical wiring. Scares the willies out of me when doing that sort of work, worried Im going to set something on fire or kill myself.

I like how it is shaping up, unique shape and style.

It's really not that hard. I thought the same thing myself before learning how to do it. My buddy is an electrician and showed me how to run everything while working at my old house. I had to call him while doing a few things on this one, but I ran the lights and hooked them up myself with no problems, so I hope everything else works. My main concern was with having my office down there and then the arcade games, bar area and then a couple tv's with 8 videogame systems about over loading the circuit breaker, but I think I have everything spread out enough.

Yeah, it seems to me that the hardest part about running wire, afte you remembered to shut off the power, is making sure you use the right kind of wire and breakers for what's going to be on a particular circuit. You need heavy duty stuff for things like your fridge and washer/dryer.

In terms of circuit overload, I wouldn't worry too much. I currently have 13 video game systems (including the Final Form of the Genesis), the 50" plasma, a modern PC with a big power supply and a portable AC unit all on a single 15 amp breaker with no issues. Well, I take that back. In the current heat wave it is close to the tripping point (yay for thermal activated breakers in a 1 bedroom apartment), so running my PS3 for 10 minutes will trip my breaker. But I had no issues for the two months prior I was using the exact same setup, and it could also drive my printer.

Super Jealous of that SF2 arcade. It is a dream of mine when I settle down to have a man cave with a couple good full size arcade machines. A small bar by my house has a dual Area 51/Maximum Force machine (have Area 51 for the Saturn graphics such on the port). I live in Kansas City, I see ads every once and a while for Arcade machines on Craigslist. I just can't bring myself to buy them as I am still a student and renting.

I agree. After seeing the professionals I hired stumble through my wiring, I came to the conclusion that I could have done just as well. But I did everything by code, which means I either hire pros, or take an exam to demonstrate that I knew what I was doing.

Did you prewire for surround sound?

I also like how you're incorporating the pier into the bar.

I wouldn't even worry about it. There's nothing there that draws that much power, and besides, not every thing is being powered on at the same time. Kinda a long story, so with out going into much detail, I have an abandoned half of my basement that was almost finished. The other side is now being occupied. Since the abandoned half was where the power was run, I have two extension cords from two different outlets into the now occupied half of the basement. At the end of each extension cord is a surge protector, and yet another surge protector plugged into the first one. I have just about the same amount of stuff you have (multiple TVs, many consoles, etc) plugged in at all times. Besides that, I also will sometimes have a few power amps on. Today I had two 300w guitar amps, one bass amp that I'm guessing draws at least 300 watts, and a drum amp on all at the same time. Oh yeah, and my desktop was on too.

Anyways, my point is that I've been doing that for years and never had a problem. From what I understand, the basement was wired to handle some serious power, I've never tripped a breaker or overloaded an outlet or anything like that. So I think you should be fine with what you have.
