Will the Left 4 Dead 2 protests end now?

Post by J T »

"Crash Course Campaign Due in September

August 4, 2009 - Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the next major downloadable content (DLC) update for its co-operative zombie thriller, Left 4 Dead (L4D), the #1 new game title on Xbox 360 and PC in 2008

Entitled "Crash Course," the latest DLC delivers new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay to both platforms. Targeted for release in September, "Crash Course" bridges the gap between the end of the "No Mercy" campaign and the beginning of "Death Toll" in the original game, expanding the game universe with new locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale

While containing both Survival maps and a Co-operative Campaign, the primary goal of "Crash" is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game's existing Versus campaigns. A recharge timer for infected teammates has also been added, and item spawn behavior has changed for more balanced gameplay.

"Since the release of Left 4 Dead last November, the design team has been excited about creating new experiences for this world and allowing players to do the same, by releasing much of our internal toolset, like the Survival Pack and Authoring Tools," said Gabe Newell. "We're working with the fans toward the ongoing entertainment value of the product."

Left 4 Dead is an action horror game from Valve that blends the social entertainment experience of multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress with the dramatic, narrative experience made popular in single player action game classics such as the Half-Life series of games. Released in November of 2008, L4D has earned over 50 industry awards from outlets around the world and sold almost 3 million copies worldwide.

Left 4 Dead: Crash Course is targeted for release in September and will be available free of charge on the PC and for 560 Gamer points on Xbox Live.

agreed. It was never about the quality or content of the game. Just about people bitching about things.

My best friend and I always get in a heated conversation about L4D2. I think it is a great idea, because I know that they are still going to update L4D1. Look who is right! :)

Oh look, a mini campaign. Wonderful. That totally makes up for the promise of new infected, new weapons, and countless fixes to MASSIVE FUCKING FLAWS in the game which valve continues to ignore.

No, I think I'm still going to bitch. Anyone who looks at the TF2 side, and back at the L4D side, will see a colossal difference in support efforts. I can't figure out why L4D continues to get so little of Valve's attention. Well, it's probably because they haven't split off 90% of their TF2 team to work on TF3.

This is insignificant. Nobody is going to want to play this.

I want a real server browser that actually works. I want to be able to search for games in the UK not Europe. I want to be able to have the choice of playing a specific area of the campaign rather than the whole thing. Sometimes you just want to play the crescendos and skip the crap before it. We need fixes for the glaring balance issues in the game. More than just a simple timer on melee attacks.

The scoring system is so unbalanced its obscene. You could play perfectly and lose one round and instantly lose a game. That sucks and is what causes 99% of people to rage quit. They lose and just don't see the point in continuing since it's such an uphill struggle to level the scores again.

We need proper matchmaking, not just shove anybody into any game. If one team is constantly winning over and over and are obviously experienced, don't just shove any old random newbie on the other team. It's just not a fair challenge it's pointless. If a team rage quits, balance the teams just like on Counter Strike. There's no point pitting 1 person against 4 people. I've seen this happen so often. A team takes a pounding on one round, they all leave, so I'm left on my own on a team of bots. Great fun...

These things should have been fixed by Valve. The content is fine, sure more of it would be nice, but we want the stuff we were promised by Valve, not be told to just buy the full price sequel. That's bullshit. We need fixes for the glaring bugs in the game like the random disconnects and the way a server just boots you out at the end of a game instead of putting you back in the lobby.

I could go on.

I suppose I should count myself lucky. I was very very close to buying L4D for quite a while, but now that 2 has been announced, the consensus seems to be to just wait for the new one.

I have no issues with L4D2.
I got my moneys worth out of the first one and will enjoy the second one just as much I'm sure.

It's seriously scary how faulty and unfinished the product is, and how low the level of support from valve on L4D is. This doesn't even seem like the same company who developed all those other classics. People don't seem to understand that we're complaining, because we see the potential that's being squandered here. We wouldn't waste our time if the game was hopeless.
