Favorite Alcoholic beverages
Re: Favorite Alcoholic beverages
I can't stand beer, but I'll have some wine and other liquors on special occasions and always in moderation.
Re: Favorite Alcoholic beverages
My philosophy with booze is that beer is a nice beverage, but should not be used for getting drunk. Too much liquid and sugar just makes that unpleasant. So I drink beer for its flavor, not intoxicating properties. Plus, men who drink 2 beers a night live longer, so it's a healthy treat.
Living in the midwest, Boulevard is cheap and plentiful. My GF prefers the wheat, so that's what I usually get. Leinenkugels and Sierra Nevada are also favorites. When I'm at a show, I'll often order a Bass. Oh and one of the venues I go to a lot has Hopluia on tap. Awesome IPA locally made in Nebraska. One of my favorite imports is Hacker Pschorr Weisse. Not only is it delicious, it is gorgeous as well. Really amazing color on that one. Generally, any time I can pick something new up, I try to.
When I want to get drunk, which is not often, I drink liquor. Usually cheap whiskey(Evan Williams, Ancient Age) and coke. That's getting rarer and rarer as I get older though.
I guess, if someone offers me a Budweiser or something, I'll drink it. But I'd never buy it for myself. It doesn't taste good, and it doesn't contain enough alcohol to get properly drunk on. There's no reason whatever to drink it then.
My GF never used to drink beer, mostly because she was only exposed to those mass market brews. I gently plied her with nice wheat beers, and mild ales like Bass, and now she enjoys a drink with me regularly. If you think you don't like beer, try something nice, you might like it.

It's very true. Hell, my work will have at least one day a month where they bring in pizza and beer for the floor.
I really don't get all the alcohol abstention across all these posts (and the general distaste for beer).
In my case, I had no interest in the intoxicating effects, and I didn't care for the taste. There is a very long list of things I don't consume based on the taste, which includes such things as water and most vegetables that aren't hidden in soup.

Re: Favorite Alcoholic beverages
I have a drink or three pretty regularly without drinking to get buzzed or even drunk (that only happens a few times a year) and without drinking bad-tasting drinks. I drink alcoholic beverages because I enjoy the taste - different drinks pair perfectly with different foods and really can enhance the whole experience of eating. If you've given up on alcohol because of the taste or because you think the only point of drinking is to get drunk then maybe, as the meme goes, "you're doing it wrong."
Very true, drinking is not meant to be done just to get wasted - although that is okay now and then too, but go for the cheap stuff. Just like wine, it is meant to accompany meals and compliment the food your are eating. This idea gets lost on the youth who sneak away a couple of dad's beer and drink it solely for the buzz. They let their friends try it - again in the wrong atmosphere - and friends hate it because they are not experiencing it under the right conditions. It's like how you are supposed to use a little steak sauce to enhance the flavor of a steak and instead you just drink it straight from the bottle. Goes from being tasty to kind of gross.

Also, people are usually introduced to beer by being offered the worst there is. Cheap beer can taste really really bad. Once you get older and poorer you tolerate it so that you can get the taste of beer without spending money on more expensive stuff. Yuengling Premium is about $18 and is pretty okay. For some reason it tastes very citrusy to me, but that is apparently just me. There is also a beer called Lionshead, which is $14-$15 for a case of bottles and is far better than most of your mainstream cheap beers. Plus they have puzzles underneath all the caps. Get either of these at a party and most people will not notice they are drinking a cheap beer.

You should never put "steak sauce" on a steak. No excuses. If you over cooked the steak or bought a bad cut, learn from it, don't try to hide it.

Yes. I don't understand how people can pour A1 all over their steak. It completely covers up the taste of the steak. Just like I don't understand how people can submerge their french fries in ketchup. Or their sushi in soy sauce. What's the point? You might as well be eating cardboard because you sure as hell can't taste the food under all that sauce.

Take it form someone who used to own a catering business, some people want everything to taste either sweet or salty. I don't get it either man. To me, there is nothing like a rare/medium rare dry aged rib eye steak of the grill with salt and pepper. My Father in law cooks his "steaks" well done, and drenches it in ketchup. It's a waste of meat to me, but for some reason beyond my realm of reasoning, he likes it that way.
Re: Favorite Alcoholic beverages
I like steak sauce on foods that aren't steak, like mashed potatoes or sandwiches... mm hungry. Soy sauce with rice or noodles just makes a smoother, saltier taste, and ketchup should never be used out of moderation. In fact, I don't really care for ketchup at all- any kind of mustard works better for me. And no mayo or tartar sauce or pickle relish, ugggh!
Anyway, I've hated the taste of alcohol. Anything with hops in it makes me want to gag- but even so I've made myself drink and have been pretty drunk before... I guess Vodka and whiskey works for me if I want to get smashed, though I'm not looking forward to doing that anymore. Beer is awful, no matter what temperature, brand, flavor, etc. Most people I know who drank a lot would also smoke, and I felt that their senses were so covered up that they didn't notice how bad it was. Plus I tend to diet off an on so flavors and tastes are more pronounced....anyway....

Pure alcohol has almost no flavor at all. But, I see where you are coming from.
I love hops. L-O-V-E hops. To me, a strong IPA is a burger's best friend. Diff'rent strokes, that's all.
But, you're being closed minded on beer. I've had beer so good it tasted like the Virgin Mary pissed in my mouth. Sample more. Broaden your horizons. You seem to like sweet foods, and there are plenty of beers that would be great company for that. Also, I would suggest drinking just one or two beers with a meal. Don't drink without food, don't drink too much, and don't drink alone.
Re: Favorite Alcoholic beverages
my list
Beer: Yuengling Black and Tan , Guiness Extra Stout , Red Stripe, plain ol Bud (BOTTLE), and when i feel like spending more, i really like the Rogue beers, haven't had one i didn't like yet, oh and any beer someone else pays for is fine with me too.
Liquor: Jameson, gin and tonic, a gin martini dirty with extra olive juice, and just like with beer, any shot someone buys me is fine too (although i live to regret those most of the time).
A beer after work is always great, sometimes you just wanna sit back, kick off your shoes, turn on some shitty cable, and drink in solitude.
